The Stand

Hi, regarding your "Project Blue" re-add, I took it out because I believe that was not part of the original version of the story; I tried to leave in only the plot aspects which were part of the original, Uncut, and TV versions. Liriodendron

Hi Angilbas - do you know if anyone has ever done a botanical study of the east Florida 'ecotype'? - it would appear to me sufficiently distinct to be formally named as a separate subspecies; maybe even (given that its earlier flowering presumably makes it reproductively isolated?) a distinct species.

Also is there any possibility you might be able to persuade the photographer to release the photos under GFDL? - as it stands, the restriction "This permission does not extend to third parties" makes it illegal for wiki mirrors to display them, but the automated nature of wiki mirror formation prevents them from avoiding this.

Any chance of getting a GFDL photo of L. chinense, too? Unfortunately, there's none anywhere in my area, or I'd get one. - MPF 12:28, 22 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Liriodendron

Hi Angilbas - I've been thinking the page is getting a bit on the long side, and that it should (as in other similar instances) be split up into three pages, Liriodendron, Liriodendron chinense, and Liriodendron tulipifera, each covering what is relevant to the genus, and to the two species individually. Of these, the last already exists as a redirect back to Liriodendron, but that's easily changed. As you're heavily involved in the page, I thought I'd ask to see what you think first - MPF 13:00, 10 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Boof Bonser

Hi Angilbas- I'm a counselor at a summercamp in NY and I actually posted a paragraph or so about the "obsession" that my campers, and even a couple of counselors, had with the Minnesota Twins pitcher, Boof Bonser. I'm not 100% sure, but I think you were the person who edited my posting out of the article. I would really like it to be posted, because I really do find it amusing, but as this is not something that is really newsworthy, I don't have any textual or online evidence that could prove it to be true except for the fact that I see it and know it is true. So, if you could please allow me to repost it, I think it would be great for my campers to see that and it would certainly be an interesting piece of trivia for true Twin fans! I believe if you look through the editing records, the paragraph is still on the website. Liriodendron stamp

Hi, while I appreciate your effort in turning up the Liriodendron chinense stamp, we can't actually use it, permission or no. The problem is that "permission" is too vague - does the permission still apply when the image is used in a version that is sold, such as the German WPers have done? What about commercial sites that reuse all or part of WP content? In any case, stamps are usually not accurate representation, the stamp designers frequently tinkering so as to make the designs more attractive. You might pinging UK Wikipedians to go down to Kew and take some pics firsthand - User:Arpingstone has been known to do this for example. Stan 21:40, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Siska etc.

Hi; just saw your addition to the Siska, British Columbia page and, noting your interest in environment/gardening, figure you must have sme resources that discuss other points such as the range of the big-leaf maple. My main reaction is as to whether Siska really is the divide-point between coastal biome and the Interior one. To me, that's already evident at Hell's Gate or Boston Bar/North Bend; aren't there pine species there that are not found farther down the Canyon but which are part of the Interior biome? Siska seems well within the boundary, fuzzy though it is. Is the bigleaf maple a specific demaractor? And if so, I'm wondering what its range in the Pemberton-D'Arcy-Seton area is...I'm from Seton, there's maple there, just cant' recall what kind.....and re that area, have you ever heard of Xacwa7 (Hakwa') - "Indian rhubarb" I think its English name is, maybe Indian celery; it's an edible green, popular with the St'at'imc people of the Lakes, but I'm not sure of its species designation......Also, given your interest in both enbvironment and gardening, what might you have to say about BC's "deserts"? Nk'mip Desert I've got a rename proposal going for as that name seems a decided neologism related to branding efforts of the Nk'mip Winery and Resort and promotion of their "Desert Cultural Centre"; thing is another Desert Cultural Centre in Osoyoos doesn't use that name (see their site....so if that pocket desert has a name, might you know what it is? South Okanagan Desert? Thing is, it's not really desert and despite claims it's an extension of the Sonoran Desert (not made on the page, but in Nk'mip's literature) I'm unaware of any adjoining part of Washington that's called desert.....if desert's only defined by rainfall, there are other places in BC that are far drier, and hotter, than Osoyoos (Lytton for starters) but despite clear "pocket deserts" here and there none have names.....oh, except the Thompson-Nicola Regional District's new designation of the "Copper Desert Country" surrounding western Kamloops Lake. So overall, what can you tell me by way of proper definitions of the climate/biome of areas like the lower Thompson (Kamloops to Lytton) and the Fraser Canyon from Lytton to Riske Creek (Chilcotin Jctn), and about the various "alpine deserts" on hte lee of the Coast Mountains, particularly in the Stikine? Just idle curiosity from a multi-track mind, but also wanting to correct various myths, such as Osoyoos' loud claim that it is "Canada's only desert", when it's neither "only" nor really a desert.....Your thoughts?Skookum1 (talk) 15:07, 10 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Maple decline

The article Maple decline has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

This is an article about a tree disease that isn't real. Several people have posted on the talk page over the years about how the article is bunk. It has no sources (just one broken external link). It has a bunch of "scare quotes" implying terms are unreliable or suspect but not giving any reason why. If I were to eliminate everything that's problematic in this article, it would be empty. So I propose deletion.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist.
