Gregg "Tits" Hughes (born May 23, 1963) and Jim "Paycheck" Norton (born July 19, 196) are an American talk radio duo who host Opie with Jim Norton. The show airs weekdays live from 7:00 a.m. through 11:00 a.m. ET exclusively on XM Radio Channel 103 and Sirius Radio Channel 206 "Opie Radio". Replays are available throughout the day on their XM and Sirius channels, On-Demand via the SiriusXM app, and on audible.com. The new format has received mixed reactions.
Hughes and Norton with Anthony Cumia co-hosted the Opie and Anthony show until Cumia's firing in July 2014. Following Cumia's firing, Hughes and Norton continued on with a show that airs in the United States and Canada on XM Satellite Radio and Sirius Satellite Radio under the title Opie and Jim Norton, while Cumia started a subscription-based video internet show at his website under the title The Anthony Cumia Show.
Background
On July 3, 2014, Cumia was fired by SiriusXM, after making a series of tweets following an off-air incident with a black woman on the street. Cumia tweeted that he was punched by the woman while attempting to take a picture in Times Square. The tweets were described by Sirius XM as "racially-charged and hate-filled".[1] Cumia stated on the Saturday, July 12 episode of Red Eye w/Greg Gutfeld that he was not going to apologize for the incident.[2]
Show launch
At the time of Cumia's firing SiriusXM made no comment as to Hughes' possible future with the company at that time. Cumia gave his blessing for the Sirius XM show to continue without him, acknowledging Hughes and Norton's obligation to fulfill their contract with SiriusXM.[3] A relaunched Opie with Jim Norton Show resumed on July 14, 2014 with Hughes and Norton discussing the incident and noting that "The Opie and Anthony Channel" was renamed "Sirius XM Talk", along with various other alterations by the company in light of the firing.[4] In October 2014, Hughes and Norton signed a new contract to continue the SiriusXM show,[5] which appears on the rebranded "Opie Radio" Channel.
Stations
Opie with Jim Norton is heard on the Opie Radio channel on Sirius XM Radio, on XM channel 103 and on Sirius channel 206.
