A+ (aplus.com) is a social news company based in New York City. The company delivers viral content created by its editorial staff and independent contributors through a website and a mobile app. The company states that it is "dedicated to highlighting social issues, sharing breaking news, and creating original, entertaining content."[1]

A+ was co-founded by Ashton Kutcher, Evan Beard, and Kendall Dabaghi and officially launched on January 27, 2015. The company’s editorial team includes former journalists from The New York Times, Huffington Post, and BuzzFeed.

Per the company, its site has approximately 50 million unique monthly visitors with an average of 100 million page views per month. According to Quantcast in November 2013, A+ was a top 50 website and a top 11 mobile site in the United States.[2]

History

A+ was founded in April 2014. In August 2014, the Wall Street Journal's Chief Digital Sales Officer, Brad Westbrook joined the company as Chief Revenue Officer.[3]

Though sometimes confused with A+, A.plus was a desktop Twitter app built by UberMedia for Kutcher in 2011 and is unrelated to A (aplus.com). A.plus featured a different product, team, and idea, and Kutcher had stopped work on the app before teaming with Beard and Dabaghi to build A+. [4] [5]

Other

Kutcher has used the site as a platform to engage with his fans, promote social issues, and affect change. In July 2014, Kutcher encouraged his fans to send birthday cards to a child with an inoperable brain tumor.[6] In October 2014, Kutcher announced his daughter's name and posted photos of newborns including her on the site.[7][8][9][10] In November 2014, Kutcher posted Save the Children's public service announcement on the site, which increased awareness for the organization's "Most Shocking Second a Day" video.
