Steve Thompson is an American record producer and remixer. He has worked with Guns N' Roses, Madonna, John Lennon, Wu-Tang Clan, Korn, Cutting Crew, Belouis Some, Public Enemy, Blondie, Whitney Houston, Metallica and Red Hot Chili Peppers, among others.
Biography
Steve Thompson is a native New Yorker. As a youth, he played guitar in local bands.
He was mentored by music moguls David Geffen and Clive Davis early in his career. At Geffen Records he got his first real break in the rock genre as a mixer on the 1987 Guns N' Roses album Appetite for Destruction, a massive bestseller that would become Geffen's most successful album.
He is a long-time collaborator with mixing engineer Michael Barbiero, with whom he shares credits on albums such as Appetite for Destruction and The Great Radio Controversy by Tesla. He mixed Metallica's 1988 Album ...And Justice for All (album).
Along with Barbiero he has completed remixes for acts including a-ha and David Bowie & Mick Jagger's take on Dancing in the Street.

Thompson started at a young age, spinning as a DJ in world-renowned NYC night clubs. This instilled in him the DJ mentality of always looking for the next big sound, regardless of the medium. As Thompson’s reputation for creating great music spread, it caught the ears of music mogul Clive Davis, who was so impressed with his passion and creativity that he took Thompson under his wing and mentored him.
Over the years, Davis showed Thompson the art of great and timeless pop tunes, teaming him with artists such as Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin and Exposé, with some amazing results: Aretha Franklin’s “Who’s Zooming Who,” Madonna’s “Open Your Heart,” and Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance with Somebody,” all certified multi-million, multi-platinum sellers.
Today, Thompson boasts an international A-List clientele that embraces everyone from John Lennon, the Rolling Stones, Wu-Tang, KORN, Public Enemy, and Madonna, to Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bob Marley, Ziggy Marley, Blues Traveler, and Soundgarden.
But Thompson has only just begun. “My greatest mark on music and global brand,” Thompson says, “has not yet taken place.”
Recently, Thompson reaffirmed his diversity and passionate interest in diverse forms of art and entertainment by:
1/ contributing to Atari’s new video game “Test Drive2,” collaborating with EDM greats Deadmau5, Metric, Temper Trap, Passion Pit, and Paul Van Dyke,
2/ moving into the big-budget motion picture arena, co-writing and developing Sci-Fi-Futuristic property “Souls,” for which he also will be composing and producing the movie soundtrack, and
