Ismail Merchant

Ismail Merchant is a film producer and his most famous collaboration is with James Ivory. They both founded Merchant Ivory Productions in 1961, many of whose films have gone on to win Academy Awards. Many of the films produced by Ismail Merchant have Ruth Prawer Jhabvala working on the screenplay. Ismail Merchant made his directorial debut with an adaptation of Anita Desai's novel, In Custody (1993).
