Wikipedia:Project MUSE/Nav Project MUSE is an online database of more than 600 academic journals and 36,000 ebooks in the humanities and social sciences. The content in Project MUSE represents over 200 university presses and scholarly societies globally. For more details, see their website.

Project MUSE is offering 200 free accounts to its published content to help write Wikipedia content related to a wide variety of topics. Wikipedia editors may apply for access to Project MUSE; their account will be valid for a period of one year.

Note that Project MUSE supports alumni access to both its book and journal content. Please check if alumni access applies to you. MUSE also supports a number of Shibboleth federations, including the U.S.

Further participation

Here are a few ways you could help The Wikipedia Library effectively leverage this partnership:

  • Add {{Wikipedia:Project MUSE/Userbox}} to your user boxes if you have access to this database. This helps us share our project with other experienced users.
  • TWL is interested in having guest bloggers. Guest blogging gives the opportunity for both The Wikipedia Library and Project MUSE to profile our partnership, and it gives the guest bloggers a new platform to share their editing experience with others (which is good for the Wikimedia community).

  1. Andres (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) I write researched articles on humanities in the Estonian Wikipedia. Andres (talk) 22:56, 2 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  2. WeijiBaikeBianji (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) I edit a lot of high-page-view articles on English Wikipedia, recently including English language, and previously won the Million Award for expanding IQ classification. As I work on the articles I'm working on currently, with access to some of the other Wikipedia Library databases, I still find sources through general Web searches that are part of Project Muse, and it would be helpful for articles on psychology and language and linguistics, my usual topics, to have access to Project Muse as well. -- WeijiBaikeBianji (talk, how I edit) 23:34, 2 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  3. RL0919 (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) Editor since 2005 with 25,000 edits and 53 articles created. I edit in a variety of humanities fields, but lately have been focusing on theater articles (plays, writers, etc.). I make extensive use of Wikipedia Library resources such as Newspapers.com. Would love to have more academic sources, and I see MUSE has over a dozen journals just about the dramatic arts. --RL0919 (talk) 23:41, 2 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  4. Justlettersandnumbers (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) I frequently edit, and sometimes create, articles on art institutions, artists and art history, for which MUSE is a fundamental resource. I no longer have institutional or alumnus access. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 23:47, 2 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  5. Sitush (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) I have found myself stymied by the inability to access Project MUSE on numerous occasions, and have occasionally resorted to WP:RX as a means to resolve it but feel very guilty about doing so because of the licensing issues. I've been the major contributor to various FAs and GAs but a lot of what I do goes under the radar, being stuff that hovers close to GA standard but not to my own personal standards because I am aware that other stuff exists, often at MUSE itself. It would be extremely useful to have access. - Sitush (talk)
  6. RHM22 (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) I work mostly in numismatics, but I contribute in other areas as well. My work in numismatics requires references in all sorts of areas, including culture and economics. I've contributed to nine featured articles, one featured list, three good articles and several DYK items. I think that Project MUSE would allow me to draw upon a variety of references which would otherwise be difficult to acquire.-RHM22 (talk) 01:29, 3 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  7. AmritasyaPutra (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) I edit Language and Philosophy topics occasionally. Recently, I am preparing Sanskrit for GA nomination, which is a vital article. --AmritasyaPutraT 01:59, 3 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  8. Mayooranathan (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) I work in Tamil Language Wikipedia for more than 11 years with more than 35000 edits and more than 4000 new articles. I edit articles on various social science topics including history, politics, linguistics etc. - Mayooranathan (talk) 02:47, 3 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  9. Kmhkmh (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) active since 2007 primarily in German and Rnglish wikipedias with a total of over 45,000 edits. I could use access for verificiation or extension of variety of different fields.--Kmhkmh (talk) 05:41, 3 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  10. JimRenge (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) I am editing articles on Religion/Buddhism. Access to JSTOR Project MUSE journals would help me to verify content and improve references. JimRenge (talk) 06:12, 3 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Hi JimRenge, this is a signup page for Project MUSE, not JSTOR - did you mean to post this at WP:JSTOR? Nikkimaria (talk) 15:20, 3 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I wrote this very early in the morning ... I have corrected my application. Best regards JimRenge (talk) 16:16, 3 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  11. சஞ்சீவி சிவகுமார் (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) I am working for Tamil Language Wikipedia from 2009.Edit count is more than 7000 edits. I edit articles on various social science topics including history, politics, linguistics etc.--சஞ்சீவி சிவகுமார் (talk) 07:42, 3 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  12. Shyamal (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) I have frequently reached the ProjectMuse wall while researching for articles (mostly in relation to South Asian natural history). I am also happy to help anyone else needing sources that I have access to at WP:RX. Shyamal (talk) 08:59, 3 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  13. czar (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) humanities, history and philosophy of education, history of technology and interactive media, partial log of database usage: user:czar/db. Project MUSE's premium collection has lots of journals I currently cannot access. czar  12:57, 3 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  14. Emeritus (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) arts, academic institutions, Oceania, Brazil, ethnohistory, indigenous people - their literature and social development. --Emeritus (talk) 17:04, 3 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  15. Ealdgyth (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) I write mainly on historical subjects, especially medieval European nobles and ecclesiastical subjects. Also a sideline in equine subjects. I've worked on getting Middle Ages, William the Conqueror, Norman conquest of England and Battle of Hastings to featured article status, along with lots of smaller subjects. Over 50 FAs that I've worked on, and over 100 GAs. Ealdgyth - Talk 17:54, 3 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  16. Shabidoo (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) I'm an eclectic editor, however I've been wanting to add more profound content to and improve articles on classical music (mainly specific works mostly symphonies and chamber music), contemporary philosophers, kurt vonnegut novels and on political legislatures. At this point in the project I feel that enriching the content is more important than creating new articles. I feel pretty limited having only open-access journals to find sources for more detailed information. Shabidoo | Talk 18:29, 3 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  17. Farrtj (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email)I write articles on business history, and access to Project Muse would be helpful. I have created 16 Good Articles and am in the top 2500 Wikipedians by number of edits. Tom (talk) 18:52, 3 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  18. Pigsonthewing (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) I have over 200K edits across WMF projects and have no doubt I will find this useful in my day-to-day editing, and in my work as a Wikimedian in Residence. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 19:28, 3 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  19. Thibbs (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) I edit articles on humanities topics with an emphasis on the history of art video games, music, and animation. I am specifically interested in gaining access to older (pre-2000) academic sources on these topics. I also occasionally edit in controversial areas and I would be interested in gaining access to high quality sources to ensure that these articles receive appropriately rigorous citations. -Thibbs (talk) 19:32, 3 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  20. Homoatrox (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) I'm active on Russian wikipedia, writing on Ancient Rome and Greece. I have over 20,000 edits and 10 FA there (and now working on 11th). MUSE project provides access to several valuable journals on these subjects (American Journal of Philology, Classical World, Journal of Late Antiquity, etc.), which would be very useful for me. — Homoatrox (talk). 22:28, 3 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  28. Karanacs (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) - I create and improve articles on the history of Texas and the Mexican borderlands before 1845, as well as articles on books and authors. I've brought many to FA status. I am most particularly interested in access to the Southwestern Historical Quarterly (I make extensive use of their older freely available archives), and there are several other journals that look like they could also be useful. I was retired for several years but returned to active editing 3 months ago and intend to remain an active editor. Karanacs (talk) 18:45, 4 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  29. RolandR (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) I am an active editor, with over 20,000 edits; I edit regularly in fields covered by this resource, including Middle East studies, Jewish studies, and political issues. RolandR (talk) 18:48, 4 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  33. Curly Turkey (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) I have nearly 40,000 edits and two dozen FAs to my name. I generally edit in the arts, and have been hoping for ProjectMUSE access for a long time—there are so many sources there that I've wanted access to. • ca$e (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) >40k edits, mostly in areas of philosophy and religious studies. Access would help immensely in quality improvement and coordinating joint efforts in these areas.

Coretheapple (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) I'm delighted to hear that Project MUSE is available. I have some experience with it in an academic setting and would be thrilled to use it, especially in articles on the performing arts. Coretheapple (talk) 18:25, 3 March 2015 (UTC) I just learned that, to my surprise, I indeed am able to access this fine resource through another method, so I'm withdrawing my application.
