Tehmina Sunny (born 6 September 1980,[1] Croydon, London, England)[2] is an English actress and a trained violinist and vocalist of Indian descent.[3]

Life and career

Living and working in Los Angeles and London, Sunny has appeared in roles for TV shows including The Following[4] with Kevin Bacon, 24, Heroes, Californication, NCIS, Undercovers written by J. J. Abrams, ABC summer hit Mistresses[5][6] and The Newsroom by Aaron Sorkin.[7] In film, her first role in a feature was with Alfonso Cuaron in his Oscar-nominated film Children of Men. She has worked with various directors since, including Mike Figgis, Roland Joffe[8] and Ben Affleck,[9] in his Oscar-winning movie Argo.[10][11] In 2013, Sunny competed against 6000 people to be selected to join the last 20 for the CBS Diversity Showcase program, thus being highlighted to the entertainment industry.[12] Screen International named Tehmina as one of their 'LA Stars of Tomorrow' for 2014. A special edition to the magazine to highlight up and coming talent. [13]

Personal life

Sunny was born in Croydon, England, to Indian Muslim parents; her father traveled to England to pursue accounting. Her mother emigrated to England from Gujarat, India, as a child. Sunny has one brother, whose career is in banking and finance. She received a scholarship for playing the violin and viola. With no previous training, she was a finalist for the BBC cross-country search for acting talent. Sunny attended University of Leeds[14] in England, where she studied Business Information Systems[15] with an emphasis on Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science.[16] This combined with marketing and business studies earned her a bachelor of science degree with honors. Her career change into the entertainment industry was unplanned but has flourished through the years.[17][18]
