Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology, Delhi (Template:Lang-hi, IIIT-D) is an autonomous university in Delhi,India for higher education.[1] It is considered an "institute of national importance" by the Indian government's All India Council for Technical Education.[2]

Foundation

It was started at the Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology (NSIT) campus at Sector 3, Dwarka, New Delhi, 110075. It was founded as a State University[3] by an act of Delhi Government (The IIIT Delhi Act, 2007)[4] in 2008, with seed support from the Government of NCT of Delhi.[5] It is a research-oriented university with focus on research at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

IIIT-Delhi was ranked 9th in India among engineering colleges in a 2014 survey by Aglasem.[9]

Campus

IIIT Delhi operates from its campus in Okhla Phase-III, New Delhi, India.[10] After its establishment in 2008, IIIT Delhi functioned from its transit campus in the library building at NSIT in Dwarka till July 2012. Its permanent campus, which is spread over 25 acres in Okhla, phase-III, became operational in August 2012. The phase-I of the construction of the IIIT-D campus is complete, with 30,000 sq.m. of building space for its functioning, including a Faculty and Research block for 50 faculty members and eight research centres, several lecture halls with a total capacity of 500, a recreation centre, a boys' hostel and a girls' hostel.

Academic Block

The administrative office and finance department offices are within the Academic block, along with the Director's Office, conference rooms, a board room, a formal seating and discussion area and faculty offices. The Faculty and Research wing contains PhD rooms and M-Tech labs. there are seating portion areas to foster discussions and for sharing of thoughts.

Library and Information Center

The IIIT-D'has a seperet building for a Library and Information Centre, which has a common study area for students and faculty on the ground floor, a state of the art library on the first floor and several labs on the upper floors.

Student Center

The Dining and Recreation centre of the institute contains a students' mess, which is spread over two floors, a cafeteria and facilities for extra co-curricular activities, such as a music room and a gymnasium.

Admission

Since 2013, the Government of NCT of Delhi has conducted common counseling for admission to the B.Tech. programmes at IIIT-D, Delhi Technological University and Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University. Admission to IIIT-D is based on:

(1) A candidate who has secured 80 percent or more marks in aggregate (including Physics, Chemistry and Math) and 80% or more in Mathematics in class XII from CBSE/ICSE/IB board or equivalent is eligible for applying to IIIT-D.
(2) total marks obtained in Paper 1 of JEE Main and normalized score in Class 12th as provided by JEE (60% & 40% weightage respectively).
(3) bonus marks which are given for achievements in various areas like Olympiads, programming contest, national talent search, sports, culture, chess, etc.[11]

Hostel

IIIT Delhi provides accommodation to students wishing to reside in the hostels. At present there are two hostels, one for the boys having 372 seats and another for the girls having 164 seats.[12]

Clubs

IIIT Delhi has many clubs to improve skills of students as theire hobbies IE Quiz Club- Trivialis, Web Design and Development Club-WDD Club, Dance Club- MadToes, Robotrix, Design Club, Ethical Hacking Club, Literary Club and Audio Bytes-the Music Club.iiitd.ac.in/facilities/students

Library

The Library and Information Center of the Institute is housed in a separate building in its Campus. It is an hub to fulfill requirements of its users Students, PhD/Research Scholars, Faculty and Staff Members. It helps in the teaching, learning and research activities of the Institute fellows. The Library is automated with the help of RFID Technology with EM Security System.[13]

Full-time faculty

The Institute is managed and organised as research groups and education programs, and has not only maintained strong department boundaries. However, faculty can be broadly grouped according to their disciplines.[14]

Research

IIIT-Delhi aims to have focused research groups in some areas of IT and some domain areas. The number and nature of research areas will evolve as more faculty and research staff joins.

Notable events

  • IIIT Delhi held its first inter-college cultural festival 'Odyssey' at its permanent campus on 31 January - 1 February 2014.
  • IIIT Delhi held the 5th IAPR International Conference on Biometrics 2012 during March 29-April 1, 2012 in New Delhi.[15][16]
  • IIIT Delhi held its first technical festival 'Esya' at its transit campus on 3–4 September 2011. Esya is now an integral part of IIIT-D's annual event calendar.[18]

Clubs and groups

Student clubs functioning at IIIT-D, as of 2011, include the Adventure Club, Community Work Club, Dance Club, Design Club, Ethical Hacking Club, Literary Club, Movie-making Club, Music Club, Robotics Club, Sightseeing And Delhi Heritage(SADHA) Club, Sports Club, Quiz Club, E-Cell and Web Design and Development Club.[20]
