1956 Boston Bruins exhibition game in Newfoundland
Appearance
In April 1956, the National Hockey League Boston Bruins played an exhibition tour of Newfoundland. The Bruins, as was their custom when they failed to make the playoffs, would play an exhibition tour. On April 9, 1956, the Bruins played an outdoor game at Bay Roberts Arena, an outdoor arena built in February 1956. This was the second ice hockey game played outdoors featuring an NHL team.[1]
The game
The game was not held under normal rules. Each of the four Bay area teams played a period against the Bruins, wound up with a 'free-for-all' where all 23 members of the Bay area teams played at once against the Bruins.[2]
