Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince will be a movie based on J.K. Rowling's sixth book in the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, once production on the film commences.

Production has been confirmed; however, development has not yet begun as production of the fifth movie, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, has only recently started. The release of the film is tentatively scheduled to occur in late 2008. In the press conference for the release of the movie adaptation of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, in October 2005, producer David Heyman said that Steve Kloves, though skipping the fifth movie, will come back as screenwriter for the sixth episode.

Director of Potter movies 1 and 2 Chris Columbus says he would return as director if and only if the actors he originally cast as the trio (Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson) are not replaced in this film.[3]

Alfonso Cuarón, the director of the third film, Prisoner of Azkaban, has expressed interest in returning to a future film.[3]

In addition, director M. Night Shyamalan has been approached by Warner Bros. to direct a Potter film. He said that he would like to try his hand at adapting a book before attempting to take on Harry Potter.[4]
