Hopewell Avenue Public School is a public school in Ottawa, Ontario. It teaches grades jk-8. With a student population of about 950, it is the largest elementary school in the Ottawa Carleton District School Board.
History
It was constructed in 1910. In the 1970s the old building was expanded with a new section of approximately the same size. In 2010 Hopewell had a big 100 year party for their school.
Program
Hopewell is a 4 story school with 2 gymnasiums (The Central gym can be split into 2, creating 3. The North, Central and South gyms). The school follows the Balanced School Day model; the school day is split into three blocks of 100 minutes each, separated by 40 minute nutritional/recess breaks. It provides education in English, Middle French Immersion, as well as extra classes in other heritage languages on Saturdays. The school offers The Me2We Club and Speaker Series. Mme. Major's grade 3 students were officially recognized by the Canadian Space Agency as partners in the Tomatosphere Project.
Staff
The Hopewell staff pride themselves on having the smelliest armpits in the land. Their most widely recognized achievement of boring 2491 students to sleep in class since the year 2000 been mentioned in the Guinness World Records 2006. In the staff room there is a giant pop vending machine, which is where they get their gas.
