Kris Reeder (born 1984)

Kris Reeder (born 1984) is an Oxford (UK) born Trombone Improviser and Sonic Artist of African-American descent. Kris Reeder has appeared on BBC1 (2012), BBC Radio Oxford (2012) and at Wembley Stadium (2012), Royal Albert Hall (2001), Royal Festival Hall (2000,2001,2002,2003,2004) and LSO St Lukes (2004), London.

Kris Reeder was born in Oxford and was raised by his mother alone, living in a poor area of Banbury, North Oxfordshire, UK. Kris started playing the Trombone at the age of 11 (1996). He was first exposed to Jazz when he participated in a free jazz/performance project when he was 14 (1999), gaining inspiration from the 'unfinished' nature of jazz. Kris won a scholarship to study at the world renowned Royal College of Music Junior Department, London at 16 (2001) and went onto win a scholarship to study at the prestigious Royal Academy of Music, London when he was 18 (2003), studying Bass trombone under Bob Hughes FRAM in James Watson's Brass Department at RAM. As a young professional trombonist Kris has circulated widely with global music icons and has performed alongside Jazz legends such as: Derek Watkins, Kenny Wheeler and Pat Thomas. Kris has performed across London at most of the major concert venues. Kris left the Royal Academy during the second year (2005), to focus on electronic and free jazz music recording.

Kris Reeder has composed a range of experimental music. His first experimental solo trombone EP entitled ‘futurecooljazz’ (2014) was released in 2014. 'Futurecooljazz1.2' featuring Solo Trombone was released on the 14th of March 2014 and 'Futurecooljazz 2' was released on the 2nd of June 2014. Kris Reeder's latest seminal work entitled 'Anthology K84' is an Avant Garde album and was released on the 24th of September 2014.

Kris Reeder composed a ground-breaking piece of music in 2014 entitled 'Sonata in 11 movements for Trombone field recordings' featuring solo trombone and field recordings from around Banbury, UK. The piece has been catalogued by the Stanford University Library, USA.

In 2013 Kris founded the 1984Ensemble, which experiments with electro - acoustic improvised Free Jazz music. The 1984Ensemble utilises broad arts based practitioners including Voice artists, actors, dancers and works to fuse different arts practices together. In 2014 Kris continued to collaborate with world class jazz improvisers, performing with Pat Thomas at the Old Fire Station, Oxford. The 1984Ensemble released an EP of the 'Liverpool Free Jazz Project' in early 2014, the highly rated 'Fifth Take' and the acclaimed 'No.1 Oxford Jazz Session' in early 2015.
