Hugo Teufel III was appointed as Chief Privacy Officer for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on 21 July 2006. The job entails ensuring "privacy compliance" and the protection of personal information.

Teufel previously served as DHS' associate general counsel, associate solicitor at the U.S. Department of the Interior, the deputy solicitor general for the state of Colorado, and as an attorney in private practice.

Teufel graduated from the Washington College of Law at American University, where he was an editor of The Administrative Law Journal, and he is pursuing a master’s degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College.[1]
