Ronald "Ronnie" Mather (birth registered January→March 1927[1] — died 2 October 2011 (aged 84)) birth registered in Wigan district, was an English Machinist at the National Coal Board and professional rugby league footballer of the 1950s, playing at representative level for Lancashire, and at club level for Wigan, as a Hooker, i.e. number 9, during the era of contested scrums, coaching at club level for Warrington ('A' Team), and Scouting for Warrington, he died in Wigan.

Rugby Football League Championship final appearances

Ronnie Mather played Hooker in Wigan's 13–6 victory over Bradford Northern in the 1951–52 Rugby Football League Championship final at Leeds Road, Huddersfield on Saturday 10 May 1952.[2]

Rugby League County League appearances

Ronnie Mather played in Wigan's 1951–52 Lancashire League victory.[3]

County Cup final appearances

Ronnie Mather played Hooker in Wigan's 28-5 victory over Warrington in the 1950 Lancashire Cup final during the 1950–51 season at Station Road, Swinton, on Saturday 4 November 1950,[4] and in the 14-6 victory over Leigh in the 1951 Lancashire Cup final during the 1951–52 season at Station Road, Swinton, on Saturday 27 October 1951.[5]

Club career

Ronnie Mather made his début for Wigan against Dewsbury at Crown Flatt on Saturday 19 August 1950, and played his last game for Wigan against Whitehaven at Recreation Ground on Saturday 21 September 1957.[6]

Genealogical information

Ronnie Mather's marriage to Elsie Smales was registered during July→September 1949 in Wigan district.[7] They had children; Stephen P. Mather (birth registered during July→September 1952 (age 71–72) in Wigan district).
