New Sections

I'd really like to see sections about Ignatian Identity and about Community Service/Interaction. Chad --> Eclectek 23:00, 17 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

People don't know how to make headings

Also, it seems like much of this page (especially the timeline) was written by some old alumnus, and does seem to be in the language requisite of an encyclopedia. J. Charles Taylor

To be clear, it was not "inadequate planning" by the Jesuit Student Council that resulted in a bifurcation of under- and upperclasspeople at the 2005 Homecoming Dance. The WTC had been used before, and because there were too many tickets sold, the only way evenly to adjust the situation was to separate by grade level. J. Charles Taylor 04:48, 8 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Just out of curiosity, is there anybody else here who attends this school besides me? Polanco 20:55, 6 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Attended, graduated last year. Very weird that the school has a functional page, even more weird that as of 2:30 AM, I'm screwing around on the internet AT said page.

Charles M. Reed 07:19, 17 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

So help me God, we actually have a decent page. Eclectek, I love you. Polanco 21:50, 20 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I'm a current student. This page really needs to be watched to prevent vandalism and other stupid stuff. Peter Jones

Considering earlier revisions of this page said that 95% of the student population (I.E. us,) smoked marijuana, I'd say this page really needs to be watched. 172.153.211.18 22:26, 6 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Copyvio

Much of the material on the page was a straight cut-and-paste from the school site and related pages (this one, for instance), so I've reverted to the last pre-copyvio revision—almost two months back. Kirill Lokshin 19:22, 3 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The vandalism done by the above user has since been reverted as the material that was copied and pasted was used with permission and is not a copyvio. Thank you. (68.88.194.206 22:00, 3 December 2005 (UTC))[reply]

I don't doubt that you do have permission, since I see no reason for you to lie, but until you can prove it, the information can't be put on Wikipedia. Please please provide evidence that you've been given permission by the appropriate parties, as this is a serious matter. Also, please do not try to delete the FAC now that it has been nominated; if you disagree with this article being Featured, then simply vote "object" on the above link. -Silence 22:04, 3 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Again, please provide some concrete evidence that this material is here with permission before reverting back to it. Kirill Lokshin 22:22, 3 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I just went to look at this page and noticed that you had removed much of the material because of copyright violation. I do not know if permission was given to copy material from this page, however, the page it was copied from is not copyrighted itself. Much of the information on this page to be represented correctly must be from a direct school source as it concerns the official policies, history, and philosophies of the school. It may still be a copyright violation (I obviously don't know) some how. Although some information may be copied directly, the majority of it is original in content. I wished I had never nominated this article to be a feautured article if I knew this was going to happen. Having recently joined Wiki, I now am having second thoughts and I am questioning the welcoming community of Wiki; however, I do understand the seriousness of copyright violation. Thank you. (Dustimagic 22:34, 3 December 2005 (UTC))[reply]
Responded here. Kirill Lokshin 22:41, 3 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Page needs major work Dustimagic 19:31, 4 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hold it, hold it. How would we go about getting proper permission to post said information proving that we are authorized by the school to post this info on wiki? Polanco 21:40, 14 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Today I noticed that someone from the school put this under History:

"official school history, with copyright permissions, pending approval from school administration"

Is someone already in discussion with the administration? Since school just got back, I was thinking about asking them but dont want to be redundant. LuckyPanda 23:03, 4 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, James is. Postell's going to be the one authorizing it.
I know, I'm going with him to discuss it. We are probably going to get something written on Jesuit letterhead with Postell's signature. We'll then scan it and post it in this discussion section. LuckyPanda 06:31, 7 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oh by the way, I was the one who was responsible for the original copyright violations. Under the name "Chihuy" I found the Jesuit article when it had barely any information on it (Polanco beat me though). In my rush to get some substantial content on the page, I committed several copyright violations by, obviously, copying and pasting directly from the Jesuit website. I really saw no reason (I was a noob) why it would be a problem as it seemed that the school would want this content to become more widespread. Since I had no intention of claiming the text as my own and merely wanted to provide completely accurate information about the school, I thought nothing of what I was doing. Only recently did I realize, through the admins' reverts, that copying and pasting posed a danger to Wikipedia even though the posting of such content is well intentioned and would probably not be minded by the school administration. I am glad, however, that my large (albeit illegitimate) additions to the article essentially "jump started" further edits. Hopefully we will soon have official permission and can add some information vital to the article contained on the website. LuckyPanda 07:43, 7 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Jesuit userbox

Dustimagic

Here's a temporary Jesuit student user box to put on your user page. Please put improved versions below.

I like the work done by User:LuckyPanda on the page. Dustimagic 03:26, 28 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

LuckyPanda

JCPThis user is a current or former student of Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas.

Note: this can be placed on a page simply with {{user JesuitDallasStudent}}. Placing this userbox on a page will also add that page to the Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas Students category. LuckyPanda 06:00, 28 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Awesome. I was too lazy to make a good one myself. Dustimagic 22:39, 1 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Too much information?

I'm wondering whether some of the information on the page should really be there. Specifically, I am questioning the Technology and Ranger Connection sections. Sure, these sections have valid information but do they really belong in an encyclopedic entry on Jesuit? I am trying to imagine whether a random person who doesn't know about Jesuit will really want to see the content in those two sections. Will it be useful to them? It seems to me that things like History, Traditions, Presidents, etc. are things that would have a lot more value in this wikipedia article. I'm not going to go off and delete the sections but rather I'd like to hear the opinions of any other editors. LuckyPanda 23:03, 4 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think the information is worthwhile to include, however, it should be at or near the end of the article. Not that many high school's have a school store like Jesuit's or an online one for that matter, and I think it is important to include the school's technology background to give this random person an idea about the school. Sure they probably care more about the History, Traditions, Presidents, etc. but to fully show the school in a complete article this information needs to be included. However, it is probably best to work on these "important" sections before righting stuff about the Ranger Connection. Like I said I think the info should stay for now toward the end as I feel it still has value, but is certainly less important. A fully-fleshed out article includes as much infomation as possible about the subject (w/o boring the reader). Again nice work on the page by the way. Dustimagic 23:37, 4 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
thanks LuckyPanda 23:53, 4 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Too much information? I think not. The current technology section shows how Jesuit is on the more cutting edge, compared to some schools. An example would be the standard of having a smartboard in every class. Though, the ranger connection section is questionable...we have to make it sound more informative, and less like a promotion for the shop. Polanco 20:42, 6 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Graffiti Zone

Although this has nothing to do with the article. I noticed a few Jesuit students had already contributed to this new page I just made so I figured I would mention it here for everyone. It's called The Original Graffiti Zone which I recently created. Be sure to check it out. Thanks. Dustimagic 00:17, 7 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Internet Explorer render issues

I just wanted to point out that IE does not render PNG files correctly. To view the image correctly, you must use Mozilla Firefox or some other more standards-compliant browser.

Merging Jesuit Dallas Museum into this article

I think that a new section should be created within this article and we should merge the Jesuit Dallas Museum "article" into it. Other's thoughts??? Dustimagic *\o/* (talk/contribs) *\o/* 01:33, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Merge it. Chad 03:51, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Goals for article

This is the type of article we should strive for. Please feel free to include some of the topics in this article in different forms in the Jesuit Dallas article. Dustimagic *\o/* (talk/contribs) *\o/* 04:24, 3 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

JCP2 is here!

At last after much request JCP2 has been created. For those of you who don't know JCP2 is a special project dedicated to the development of the article into a featured article. JCP2 is not a WikiProject but rather a unique place to discuss and plan out the development and collaboration on the Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas article. JCP2 is an effort to move beyond the Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas talk page and create a forum for improvement and growth of the article. Please add you name to the list of particpants on the project page. Thanks and I look forward to your help and hard work. Dustimagic *\o/* (talk/contribs) *\o/* 23:12, 6 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

CCT

Does Jesuit still have closed circuit tv? I was not aware of this. Chad 05:37, 10 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No. Jesuit hasn't had closed circuit tv in a while. It was there when the Inwood Road campus opened, though. The Lone Ranger 9:06 PM, 18 April 2006 (CDT)

grades 9 through 12

Please internationalise that phrase. I have no idea what ages "grades 9 through 12" covers. --kingboyk 15:19, 20 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Traditions

I removed references to the moodle chant of JCP 2007 and bowties for seniors from the traditions section. Traditions extend from class to class. Moodle chanting is not a tradition. Wearing bowties is simply a change in the uniform policy. Please respond if you disagree with these edits. Eclectek (mispelling intentional) 19:43, 17 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Distinguished Alumni

Sean Bond - 2003 is not prominent enough to merit being listed on the wiki. He was merely signed with a college sports team out of high school. Any complaints to my revert? Eclectek 02:37, 6 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Bold Edits

In the spirit of Jimbo Wales, I've made some bold edits to this article. We can discuss them here before you revert them. Eclectek C T 19:55, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Too much Information (Not a question)

Okay. It's been a while since I've been back to this article, a child of mine that I've abandoned for a few years (I would be such an awesome parent). What's with all the cluttering and ridiculous minutiae about departmental requirements??? This is a wikipedia article, not a freaking course catalog. Don't add content for the sake of adding content. Geez. LuckyPanda 06:45, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Notable Alumni

I propose the following rules for notable alumni:

  • Athletes: must have played professional sports or played in a championship game at the college level (NCAA, etc.)

Fair use rationale for Image:JesuitDallasMuseumLogo.jpg

Image:JesuitDallasMuseumLogo.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 07:14, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Neutral Point of View

The Wikipedia entry for Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas displayed erroneous content and had many parts that were not encyclopedic. Changes were made to make the page more compliant with Wikipedia's editorial standards. The neutrality of the page has since been disputed. Please discuss which elements need removed and/or adjusted. JesuitCommunications (talk) 21:42, 2 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The whole article reads like an advertisement/prospectus. Wikipedia only records what the reliable secondary sources say about a subject, this article has no sources whatsoever let alone any secondary ones. Theroadislong (talk) 21:56, 2 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Parker Rice

Parker Rice should be listed among notable alumni. Notable does not always mean positive, but Rice has been the focus of intense international news and has been connected with the school throughout the episode, to the point that the school released a statement and developed a plan to address the concerns internally. This has been covered by local and national news. In addition, this would help balance the NPB of the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.74.7.75 (talk) 09:59, April 13, 2015

Hey, thanks for starting the talk page section for this. The notable people section is used for people that have Wikipedia articles already. Rice doesn't have one and probably won't ever have one, barring something in the future. The reason for that is something that we call WP:BLP1E which is about people who are really only notable for a single event. That's clearly true for Parker. We would have an article for the particular event, but not for the person involved unless there is significant coverage that is only on that person, not on the event. Again, that's true here. While I understand your point, Rice just isn't notable enough to include in the list. If you'd like another recent event, look at the Shooting of Michael Brown and Normandy High School (Missouri) where Brown attended. There was probably more coverage around the event and on Brown, but he's not on their notable list and really shouldn't be on list. Thanks. Ravensfire (talk) 16:08, 13 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
