"My Heart Is Open"
Song

"My Heart Is Open" is a song recorded by Maroon 5 and Gwen Stefani for Maroon 5's fifth studio album, V. The song was written by Adam Levine, Benjamin Levin, Sia Furler, Rodney Jerkins, and Andre Lindal, with production from Benny Blanco, Darkchild, Lindal, and Levine. The song contains many elements of general pop music. Chris Payne of Billboard magazine describes the song as "an emotional piano ballad clearly crafted for Adult Contemporary radio domination."[1]

Background

James Valentine, the guitarist for Maroon 5, stated "it's cool for all of us to have [Stefani] on the record, and Adam won't shut up about how cool she is as a person." Valentine also told Billboard that Stefani's band No Doubt influenced the early incarnation of Maroon 5, Kara's Flowers.

Critical reception

Marissa G. Muller of Radio.com, called the song "the perfect closer. It's a slow-burning song, as Maroon 5 have been known to make".[2]

Live performances

Levine and Stefani performed the song at the 57th Grammy Awards on February 8, 2015.[3] The song is also included on the set list for Maroon 5's 2015 world tour, Maroon 5 World Tour 2015.
