City West Housing Pty Ltd is a not for profit affordable rental housing company. Established in 1994 by the New South Wales State Government, City West Housing Pty Ltd was set up to provide low-cost accommodation to people on very low to moderate incomes, which includes essential workers who would not otherwise be able to afford to rent in this inner Sydney area. Its charter was to provide up to 600 residential units in the Ultimo and Pyrmont areas of Sydney Australia over a 30-year period and be financially self-sufficient. CWH has achieved financial self-sufficiency and in its first 15 years of operation has produced 550 units, with over 200 in planning stages which will see the company exceed its target well ahead of time. People renting these units pay rent based on their gross household income. Rent is calculated on a sliding scale from 25% to 30% of income. Since first established, the company has expanded to include provision of housing in the Green Square area of Sydney and with its in house expert development capability has produced quality, well-designed housing that is indiscernible from surrounding private sector dwellings. Its CEO is Richard Perkins.
