Note that the high volume of edits to radio station articles from this IP address today followed a pattern aimed at masking vandalism. The vandal made multiple edits to a group of related articles over two days, the first round of which appeared legitimate. The initial volume of legitimate edits gave the appearance of good faith. Only later did the vandal return to make bogus edits.
The approached used was:
make a series of minor, legitimate-looking edits
create a new bogus article
create legitimate-appearing edits in exisiting articles linking to the new bogus article
create further edits that insert inaccurate content into the articles linking to the new article
use similar inaccurate content across a series of articles in a genre
make legitimate edits following bogus edits so that the most recent edit appears OK
Initially, this vandal did a good job appearing to be a good-faith editor and his bogus entries appeared valid. Only by viewing several of his edited articles and seeing the similarities did it become obvious what was going on. As a result, entries made via this IP address should be reviewed often and carefully.
As mentioned above, the poster seems to make legitimate edits and then goes to post things that make no sense and what amounts to future history.
It was this or some variant of this that got my attention:
For most of its existence, the station served as an ABC affiliate but became the NBC affiliate for New York on July 1, 2006, following the defection of long-time NBC station WNBC to the Disney and ABC.
The first tipoff was not the 2006 date given, but the fact that I know WNBC is part of NBC and not any sort of subsidiary or station with an affiliation. For all intents and purposes WNBC is NBC, so this patent nonsense stuck out like a sort thumb.
Why did you use my article on WSKQ and pretty much change some words around to create an article on KLAX? I decided to make the article into a basic stub, and delete all of the wikipedia cutting and pasting that you did with my article. ErikNY 20:06, 6 Jun 2005 (UTC)
This user has been up to more than that today. A known vandal that likes to copy the same edits into radio/tv station articles, this is the latest misinfo: "In 2002, the station's longtime home on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood, was vacated, and KWHY relocated to studios at Glendale, then NBC Studios in Burbank a few miles away in San Fernando Valley , was demolished in 2003 to make for a shopping center."
