Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee

Godzilla: Save the Earth was a sequel to 2002's Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee, and was released for the Microsoft Xbox and Sony PlayStation 2 (angering fans of the GameCube, the system the original game had done the best on). It involved the Vortaak returning to Earth, once again controlling an army of monsters, including their ultimate weapon, SpaceGodzilla. This time around, new monsters were added to the roster, and the arenas were much more detailed, including hills, elevated highways, and waist-deep water. Another new addition was Challenge Mode, in which the player must attain goals other than just clobbering their opponent. Godzilla: Save the Earth will be succeeded by Godzilla Wii (Working title)

Monsters

  • Anguirus - Very fast, with powerful attacks and defense, but poor long range attacks. Unlocked in the beginning.
  • Baragon - Very fast, somewhat weak, but with several special abilities (digging, ranged attacks while moving, and mid-air attacks during running jumps).
  • Destoroyah - Slow, but with powerful attacks, possesses several powerful ranged attacks (also, he/she is unable to fly in this game).
  • Gigan - Specializes in dealing edged attacks with his arm blades, and also has the ability to teleport. Unlocked in the beginning.
  • Godzilla 90's - Well rounded, with the game's most powerful special (when used correctly). Unlocked in the beginning.
  • Godzilla 2000 - The game's most well rounded character, and the default for the mini-games. Unlocked in the beginning.
  • Jet Jaguar - Ability to change size switches between a well rounded normal size, a slow and strong large size, and a fast but weaker small size. Curiously, his range attack requires energy, but is still used if you don't have enough energy.
  • King Ghidorah - Slow, strong, and hard to knock down. Can sacrifice energy for health.
  • Mechagodzilla 2 - A powerhouse with several ranged attacks that can knock down monsters fairly easily.
  • Kiryu/Mechagodzilla 3 - A faster, shinier, more melee based Mechagodzilla.
  • Mecha-King Ghidorah - Same as King Ghidorah, but extremely vulnerable to energy attacks (these may HEAL him if the proper defense is set up). However, this is offset by near invulnerability to melee attacks, both blunt and edged. Can sacrifice health for energy.
  • Megaguirus - The fastest character, but lacks ranged attacks unless she drains an opponent via one of her grappling techniques.
  • Megalon - A powerful character with poor defense and the ability to dig. Unlocked in the beginning.
  • M.O.G.U.E.R.A. - An unbelievably fast and powerful ranged character who is powerless without energy. MOGUERA can recharge energy by shutting down but makes him vulnerable.
  • Mothra - A very long-range based character that reflects beams.
  • Orga - The most physically powerful character in the game with running and air throws.
  • Rodan - Weak, but fast, and the game's best flyer.
  • SpaceGodzilla - Slow, but very fast when float-dashing. Most attacks require energy, but crystals give double energy recovery. Also a boss in the MOGUERA rail-shooter minigame.

Unplayable Monsters

  • Battra: Battra is summoned by picking up one of the Summonable tokens. Battra will then come flying through the sky and attacks the monster fighting the one who took the token. Battra will later fly away. He can also be forced away by a blast from either monster if it makes contact with him. (This was Mothra's role in the preceding game)
  • Ebirah: When playing the Godzilla Under Water Mini-Game, the Mammoth crustation from the film Godzilla vs. the Sea Monster will rise from the coral and swims over Godzilla with his claws. After being shot by a dozen times, Ebirah goes to a furious level. When Ebirah is defeated, he will become a charred corpse and sink to the bottom of the endless sea.
  • Millennian: In a mini game, Godzilla is taken aboard the Vortaak mothership where he confronts Orga's ship. After defeating the ship, it will land and become Orga's first form, Millennian. After defeating it as well, it will transform into Orga and go into hand to hand combat with the player (Godzilla).
  • SpaceGodzilla (Flying Form): When in the Asteroid Belt Mini-Game, you face your last challenge by battling the space traveling form of SpaceGodzilla. First, SpaceGodzilla rises from the rocky meteor and begins to fire his Corona beams at the player, M.O.G.U.E.R.A, like how it did in Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla. Avoid the beams and retaliate by firing back, Spacegodzilla will soon be defeated. When SpaceGodzilla is defeated, he will roar in pain and leave for Earth, where you will battle him once more.

Scrapped Monsters

Biollante: She got scrapped at the last minute because the employees thought she was behind schedule.

Titanosaurus: The considered him for the game but there was a lisencing issue from Toho so he quickley got canned.

Godzilla (54): They were originally going to include this version of Godzilla as a super-secret character but for unknown reasons they decided to take him out of the game.

Mechagodzilla (74): They were also going to include this version of Mechagodzilla as a super-secret character but since they already put in Mechagodzilla II and Kiryu Atari decided that they didn't want to put him in the game.

Super Mechagodzilla: They were going to put this version in the game to replace Mechagodzilla II but they decided to use some of Kiryu's moves and incorporate some of them into Mechagodzilla II so they decided to pull the plug on Super Mechagodzilla.

Hedorah: They heavily considered Hedorah for the game but for reasons unknown they pulled him out.

Battra(playable): When Pipeworks decided to use Super X-III as an airstrike instead of Battra they were going to include Battra as a playable character but Atari wanted them both as airstrikes so Pipeworks scrapped the idea of Battra being a playable character.
