Interestingly Hutt City is not actually the formal or offical name of this locality.

Offically named Lower Hutt by the New Zealand Geographic Board (http://www.linz.govt.nz/rcs/linz/pub/web/root/core/Placenames/SearchPlaceNames/searchplacenames/index.jsp?p=53465) the Lower Hutt City Council changed its legal name as part of a branding exercise to Hutt City Council (see the Lower Hutt City (Name of City Council) Act 1991) and started using the term Hutt City in place of Lower Hutt to describe the area. Lower Hutt remains the offical name of the area.
