South Woodham Ferrers railway station serves the town of South Woodham Ferrers in Essex, England. The station, and all trains serving it, are operated by Abellio Greater Anglia. It is part of the Crouch Valley Line.
The station was also once a junction for a now dismantled line leading to Maldon, which closed in 1953.[1]
When the station opened, it was intended to serve the nearby village of Woodham Ferrers, despite being located a few miles to the south. However, due to later development of the surrounding area into the new, and much larger, town of South Woodham Ferrers, the station no longer strictly serves Woodham Ferrers. Consequently, the station's name was changed from Woodham Ferrers to South Woodham Ferrers on 20 May 2007.[2]
As of May 2011[update], the typical off-peak service is one train every 20 minutes towards Southminster and Wickford alternately.[3]
During peak times however, train services will occasionally not terminate at Wickford, running all the way to and from Billericay, Shenfield and London Liverpool Street.
