Durgi is a census village & Gram Panchayat Head Quarters in Rayagada district in the state of Odisha, India.

Geography

Durgi is located at 19°31′N 83°31′E / 19.52°N 83.52°E / 19.52; 83.52.[1] It has an average elevation of 342 m (1,122 ft).

Demographics

As of 2001 India census,[2] Durgi had a population of 2500. Males constitute 50% of the population and females 50%. Durgi has an average literacy rate of 50%. http://www.censusindia.gov.in/PopulationFinder/Population_Finder.aspx shows that the total population of the village is 2500 out of which male population is 1500 and the female population is 1000.Gram Devi is the prime Goddess of Durgi. There is a beautiful temple, with its new look, for her.The temple of Lord Jagannath is situated by the main road and opposite of temple of Maa Bhairavi.There is a spring named Tumbalpadu, a scenic spot just 2 km away from Durgi.

Temples of divinity

A no. of temples enhance the cultural beauty of the village. They are;

  • The temple of Lord Jagannath by the main road,
  • The temple of Goddess Vairavi opposite of Sri Jagannath Temple,
  • The temple of Grama Devi(Thakurani Mandir),
  • The temple of Lord Shiva which is around 200 years old made by the than ruler of Durgi,
  • The temple of Radhakanta by the main road and another Radhakrishna Mandir in mid of the village.,
  • The temple of Sai Baba.

Visiting places

A water reservoir is located at Kundanpadar, Durgi with a catchment area of 2 square miles (5.2 km2). The water of this reservoir irrigates many acres of land near by Durgi, Bhaleri, Kundanpadar, Balipadar and also supplies drinking water to Durgi village. Its construction was completed in the year 2000.The panoramic view of the reservoir is a popular tourist attraction. This is also a popular picnic destination.

Current MLA from Bissam-Cuttack (ST) Assembly Constituency is Jagannath Saraka (won by: 29186 votes) of BJD, who won the seat in State elections of 2014 for the first time.[3]

Durgi is part of Koraput (Lok Sabha constituency).[4]
