Harnaut is a city in Nalanda district of Bihar state, India. Harnaut is the entrance city of Nalanda. The Hinduism, buddhist and Jain pilgrim centres of Vaishali, Rajgir, Nalanda, Bodh Gaya, and Pawapuri are nearby this city Harnaut. Chief minister of bihar mr.Nitish kumar is from Harnaut.

Geography And Climate

Geography

It is located at at 25°22′0″N 85°32′0″E / 25.36667°N 85.53333°E / 25.36667; 85.53333 an elevation of 43 m above MSL.[2] Harnaut is one of the most prominent block of Nalanda district. It is gate city of Nalanda.It is located 55 km from Patna, the capital of Bihar state. It is 23 km from the Ruins of Nalanda. It is situated at bank of River Panchanan. The land of Harnaut is very fertile. Alluvial soil is mostly deposited by several rivers of this area. There are many local rivers such as Dhoba, Panchanan, etc. Holy river Ganges is passed through near by 10 km.

It is Hot in summer. Harnaut summer highest day temperature is in between 25 °C to 42 °C . Average temperatures of January is 13 °C, February is 19 °C, March is 25 °C, April is 30 °C, May is 32 °C .

Overview

Chief minister of Bihar, Mr. Nitish Kumar has been elected many times as MLA from Harnaut legislative assembly seat. His native village Kalyan Bigha is 4 km north-west of Haranut. River muhane passes 1 km west of the city. At present this city do not have municipality, but it is under Sabnahua panchayat. People of city are demanding to make it a subdivision. Population of city is nearly around 176140. This beautiful city is divided into many parts : Harnaut Beech Bazar, NH 30A ,NH 31,Harnaut station-kalyanbigha Rd and Harnaut-athmalgola Rd. Administrative offices are in Dakbanglow Road. Dakbanglow Road is linked to High School Harnaut, Middle School Harnaut, many tuition centres, a big play ground and guest house. Beech Bazar(central market Rd) and Cheran Rd is the commercial area of Harnaut.This city is linked to several small roads like- Sartha Rd, dehra Rd, swedah Rd, Dwarka bigha Rd, Gokulpur Rd etc. A small bus stand and a green grocery is located just besides the NH 31. There is a Carriage Repair Workshop under East Central Railway at NH 30A for POH of 50 Non-AC coaches per month.

Agriculture is the main source of income, with rice, wheat, pulses, fruits and vegetables being the main crop. There is also one railway coach factory located in Harnaut.Agriculture is the prime activity although tourism in nearby places like Nalanda, Rajgir and Pawapuri boosts economy of this town very much. This town supplies agricultural products like cauliflower, potato, mustard seed and other vegetables to neighbouring states. Although the economy is mainly based on agriculture products, and garments are also manufactured at household industries. And for the help of farmer there is krishi vigyan kendra, Harnaut who provide help to the people of Nalanda district.

It's gateway city of Nalanda. NH 30A passes through Harnaut. Nearest airport is Patna Airport. NH 31 also passes through the city.Most of one popular area srichandpur near railway station. City with a major road and rail network.

NH 30A connect Varanasi, Patna via Fatuha to sheikhpura district, Barbigha, Barh, Deoghar etc. Harnaut thus serves as the gateway of the district Nalanda to central and southern Bihar. Similarly, NH 31 connects Ranchi via Hazaribagh & Harnaut to northeastern India up to Guwahati.

Harnaut Railway Station for the people of Harnaut. It connects Harnaut with the major cities in India like New delhi , Howrah by the Howrah-Delhi Main Line.Harnaut Railway Station on bakhtiyarpur-Gaya main line. This is firstly bakhtiyarpur-Rajgir Line then line is being further expanded to Natesar to connect with Gaya junction.Harnaut railway is in the Danapur railway division of the East Central Railway zone. Harnaut is well connected with Patna , Rajgir, Biharsharif, Gaya junction , Varanasi cant, Howrah , New Delhi through daily passenger,express and super fast trains in services.

Harnaut Coach Repair Workshohp

Carriage Repair Workshop is being set up east of Harnaut Railway Station by the Indian Railways. Foundation stone wad laid by then President of India, Honorable A.P.J Abdul Kalam, along with Railway Minister Mr. Nitish Kumar. This is about to complete by 2012. East Central Railway had no carriage repair workshop and was totally dependent on ER and NER. In order to be self-reliant and improve efficiency, workshop for overhauling of 50 coaches per month has been set up at Harnaut on Bakhtiyarpur-Rajgir section of Danapur division of East Central Railway. The workshop is spread over 75 acres of land and there is scope for future expansion also It has so far carried out 139 POH of Non AC ICF Coaches. It’s present outturn is 20 coaches per month and target from April 1, 2014 is 30 coaches per month and gradually improving. Most of its infrastructure was completed in 2013 and in future there is plan to repair air-conditioned coaches as well as.
