Pangako Sa ’Yo (2000)

Pangako Sa ’Yo (Lit: Promise to You / English: The Promise) is a 2015 Philippine romantic melodrama television series based on Pangako Sa ’Yo, Directed by Rory Quintos, Dado Lumibao, Cathy Garcia-Molina and Olivia M. Lamasan, it is topbilled by Kathryn Bernardo, Daniel Padilla, Jodi Sta. Maria, Angelica Panganiban and Ian Veneracion.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7] The series premiered on ABS-CBN and worldwide on The Filipino Channel on May 25, 2015, succeeding Forevermore.[8][9]

It is a modern retelling of a great Filipino love story that revolves around Amor, Eduardo, Claudia, and their children Yna and Angelo, whose lives are intertwined because of love, poverty, power and vengeance.

Plot

The story revolves around two young lovers. Angelo Buenavista (Daniel Padilla), the libelous son of a powered politician, falls in love with Yna Macaspac (Kathryn Bernardo), a simple but beautiful adopted daughter of a retired policeman. Unknown to them, their love story is destined to repeat history.

20 years ago the promise of love begins with a simple, aspirational girl. Amor de Jesus (Jodi Sta. Maria), fell in love with a rich man, Eduardo Buenavista (Ian Veneracion). After all the challenges and objection of Eduardo's affluent family, the two find themselves struggling to find the freedom to love. As Eduardo's mother, Doña Benita, opposes their relationship since Amor was just a barrio lass and she wanted her son to marry Claudia Zalameda instead for political reasons. Things got worse when Eduardo's brother, Diego (Bernard Palanca) chases and tries to rape Amor. Claudia witnessed the incident, but is convinced by Doña Benita not to help Amor. Eduardo, upon hearing about the incident, threw away all his feelings and love for Amor and he betrays their relationship, not believing that his brother could have raped her, and not listening to Amor's explanation since he thought she was lying. He attempts to bribe her to leave him alone; Amor loses all hope and is disgusted by his offer of money. Before Eduardo marries Claudia (Angelica Panganiban), he regained back his senses and looks for Amor but it was already too late, he never found her again, so he marries Claudia instead. Amor raises her daughter, Maria Amor, along with her family and leaves to work abroad as a domestic helper while Amor is still very young. She returns a little while later only to find their town had been destroyed by a strong earthquake. Her entire family has died, falling under the assumption her daughter is gone too. She vows to have revenge on all those people who destroyed her life. Amor's daughter turns out to be alive after being saved then taken in by Mang Isko's (Ronnie Lazaro) family and will grow up as Yna Macaspac.

Yna meets Eduardo and Claudia's son, Angelo Buenavista, who is spoiled, reckless and holds a bitter relationship with his father. One night, after being sent of an errand by her sister-in-law, Julieta Macaspac (Sunshine Garcia) - who owns a brothel/restaurant that Yna is forced to work in - Yna is attacked by a gang member and almost experiences the same fate as her mother had. Fortunately, Eduardo and his staff witness the attempt to kidnap/rape Yna and saves her; forming a protective bond from the Governor over Yna. To help Yna's family pay off their debts, Governor sends them to work for Casa Corazon as a cook where Angelo is the boss and is trying to save the business. Angelo develops feelings for Yna but it turns into hate when he thinks she is having an affair with his father - who he still resents for his parents' rocky marriage. Once he confronts her and learns she is innocent, he begins to repair their friendship. Once again, falling in love with her.

Meanwhile, Amor, coming back from the U.S. as Amor Powers, with heart full of revenge and hatred, has made a name for herself in the business world. All the while planning her revenge on the Buenavista family, whom she blamed for the sufferings she endured before and the assumed death of her child. An all-out war begins between Amor Powers and Claudia Buenavista. Will Angelo and Yna’s love suffer the same fate as Amor and Eduardo’s? And will Amor and Eduardo still be able to forget all those what happened in the past and be able to continue their love and relationship once again?
