U.S. Xpress is headquartered in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and is the second-largest, privately owned[1] truckload motor shipping carrier in the United States. Its service offerings include Solo-Truckload, Team, Dedicated, Demand Critical, Intermodal freight transport, Logistics, Brokerage, and International.
History
Max Fuller and Patrick Quinn founded U.S. Xpress, Inc. in 1985[2] and hauled its first load with a fleet of 48 trucks on January 21, 1986[3].
In 1990[4], Inc. Magazine recognized U.S. Xpress as one of the 500 fastest growing private companies in the nation, growing more than 1,000 percent from 1985 to 1989. In order to accommodate the rapid growth, the company’s headquarters moved from its original location in Tunnel Hill, Georgia, to its current facility in Chattanooga, Tennessee. By 2013, U.S. Xpress became the fastest truckload carrier in history to reach $1 billion in annual sales[5].
Today, U.S. Xpress has over 5,000 trucks and nearly 8,000 employees.
Fleet
U.S. Xpress has a current fleet size of roughly 5,600 trucks. The fleet is made up of 1,500 Peterbilt trucks and 2,400 Freightliner Trucks, with the remaining 1,700 comprised of Kenworth and International trucks. Trucks within the fleet average 15 months old.
Equipment and Technology
U.S. Xpress trucks are equipped with a company-created Xpress Mobile app[6], which allows drivers more control through their smartphones and tablets.
Trucks are also equipped with:
• Two-way satellite communication systems
• Blindside cameras
• Driver Tech on-board computers
• In-cab navigation systems, including route and location monitoring
Team Driving
U.S. Xpress’ fleet of team drivers has grown to more than 650 teams since it was founded in 1986. Teams haul a variety of freight including retail, expedited shipments, high-value products, time-critical shipments, and Hazmat. Team services are offered to 48 continental states, with interline service to Mexico and Canada.
Driving teams typically cover more miles in less time than solo drivers, which often leads to less dwell time from origin to destination and reduces the need to keep large quantities of on-hand stock.
Team Max
In 2014, to accommodate the increase in its team drivers, U.S. Xpress created Team MAX.
While still a part of U.S. Xpress, Team MAX specifically caters to the needs of team drivers. The idea is that team driving differs from other forms of truck driving and therefore needs a separate branch to provide specialized support, information, and equipment when needed.

U.S. Xpress has 10 terminals located in the following locations:

·Fontana, California
