PlaneSense is a fractional aircraft ownership program managed by PlaneSense, Inc. PlaneSense, Inc. was formerly named "Alpha Flying, Inc." The name was changed on February 1, 2012. Based in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, they are the largest civilian fleet manager of the Pilatus PC-12 in the world, with 33 aircraft. They are the third largest fractional company in United States, and the largest regional fractional program in the world.[1]

History

Originally based in Norwood, Massachusetts, Alpha Flying was founded by George Antoniadis in 1992. In 1995 the PlaneSense program was started, with the first Pilatus PC-12 delivered on September 9th, 1995. On their ten-year anniversary in 2005, the PlaneSense fleet had grown to 20 and 50,000 flight hours had been completed. As of August 2013, the fleet grew to 49 present and past aircraft and completed 200,000 flight hours. In 2007 they moved to a new facility at Pease International Airport in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.[2]

PlaneSense has had two accidents:

On 12 June 2009, N877AF landed long following an ILS approach in low instrument weather conditions at Bridgeport, Ct. The aircraft hit a blast fence, and stopped causing substantial damage to the engine, propeller and a wing.[3]

Pilatus PC-12, Colonie, N.Y., July 16, 2010–The turboprop single, operated by Alpha Flying PlaneSense on a flight from Chicago Executive Airport to Westchester County Airport, was forced to make an emergency landing at Albany International Airport when its engine failed 12 miles south of the airport. The two-person flight crew was able to glide the PC-12 to the airport and make a successful power-off landing. Neither the flight crew nor the two passengers were injured.[citation needed]
