WikiCup 2015 is just around the corner...
Hello everyone, and may we wish you all a happy holiday season. As you will probably already know, the 2015 WikiCup begins in the new year; there is still time to sign up. We have a few important announcements concerning the future of the WikiCup.
- We would like to announce that Josh (J Milburn) and Ed (The ed17), who have been WikiCup judges since 2009 and 2010 respectively, are stepping down. This decision has been made for a number of reasons, but the main one is time. Both Josh and Ed have found that, over the previous year, they have been unable to devote the time necessary to the WikiCup, and it is not likely that they will be able to do this in the near future. Furthermore, new people at the helm can only help to invigorate the WikiCup and keep it dynamic. Josh and Ed will still be around, and will likely be participating in the Cup this following year as competitors, which is where both started out.
- In a similar vein, we hope you will all join us in welcoming Jason (Sturmvogel 66) and Christine (Figureskatingfan), who are joining Brian (Miyagawa) to form the 2015 WikiCup judging team. Jason is a WikiCup veteran, having won in 2010 and finishing in fifth this year. Christine has participated in two WikiCups, reaching the semi-finals in both, and is responsible for the GA Cup, which she now co-runs.
- The discussions/polls concerning the next competition's rules will be closed soon, and rules changes will be made clear on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Scoring and talk pages. While it may be impossible to please everyone, the judges will make every effort to ensure that the new rules are both fair and in the best interests of the competition, which is, first and foremost, about improving Wikipedia.
If you have any questions or concerns, the judges can be reached on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, on their talk pages, or by email. We hope you will all join us in trying to make the 2015 WikiCup the most productive and enjoyable yet. You are receiving this message because you are listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Drive: Thanks to everyone who participated in November's Backlog Elimination Drive. Of the 43 people who signed up for this drive, 26 copy edited at least one article. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here. Progress report: The November Drive removed 26 requests from the Requests page and 509 articles from the {{copy edit}} backlog. We copy edited 83 articles tagged in the target months; July, August, and September 2013. Together with tag removals from articles unsuitable for copy editing, we eliminated July 2013 from the backlog and reduced August and September's tags to 61 and 70 respectively. As of 01:01, 1 December 2014 (UTC), the backlog stood at 1,974 articles, dipping below 2,000 for the first time in the Guild's history (see graph at right). Well done everyone! Blitz: The December Blitz will run from December 14–20 and will focus on articles related to Religion, in recognition of this month's religious holidays in much of the English-speaking world. WikiCup 2015 launch newsletter
Round one of the 2015 WikiCup has begun! So far we've had around 80 signups, which close on February 5. If you have not already signed up and want to do so, then you can add your name here. There have been changes to to several of the points scores for various categories, and the addition of Peer Reviews for the first time. These will work in the same manner as Good Article Reviews, and all of the changes are summarised here.
Remember that only the top 64 scoring competitors will make it through to the second round, and one of the new changes this year is that all scores must be claimed within two weeks of an article's promotion or appearance, so don't forget to add them to your submissions pages! If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, and you hope to get it promoted before the end of the round, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAN, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck! Gauntlet sockpuppet
Hello hello. I see that you reverted this. While I understand the zero-tolerance severity of sockpuppetry, I was wondering if there's any background or precedent on the idea of someone else being able to crib a sockpuppet's contribution if it's actually good. Just take it and apply it as your own. Purely in the interest of the article's contents, it seems to me that one is of exceptionally good quality. Right? I'm battling a sockpuppet too and I want to find someone to ban their IP address or something, so I understand. — Smuckola (Email) (Talk) 06:33, 19 January 2015 (UTC)
- There is some information that may be of use for that sockpuppet: Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Jagged 85, Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Jagged 85 and Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Jagged 85/Evidence. Hope this helps. Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 06:45, 19 January 2015 (UTC)
- Ugh, I hope it isn't Jagged. Anyways, please do not revert potential sockpuppets until the SPI investigation confirms them. If we need to revert all of 86.*'s edits, it's going to need to be a systematic job, I managed to track back the IP addresses to September with almost continual editing. It's not immediately obvious to me that it is Jagged (I actually though it might be Niemti with a change in focus.) Until the SPI investigation is done, I'm reverting your reversion. --PresN 07:25, 19 January 2015 (UTC)
- Well, on second though, if Indrian and Serge think it's likely, I'll leave it at FF7 for now, and revert myself if necessary. I did like some of his edits, even without checking sources. --PresN 07:29, 19 January 2015 (UTC)
- As I assumed that it was Jagged in the first place, I had to revert his edits to FFVII. Even though his edits appear to be good, Jagged's work can't be trusted at all. I thought it was necessary to revert all of Jagged's edits per WP:BANREVERT. See also Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Jagged 85/Computer Games Evidence. Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 07:58, 19 January 2015 (UTC)
- If it is Jagged, I'll revert his FF7 changes; you are right that he categorically cannot be trusted. I don't understand what's wrong with people like them and G-Zay. --PresN 04:34, 20 January 2015 (UTC)

List of Fairy Tail characters
There are two things that stuck out to me about your recent edits to the List of Fairy Tail characters page following my reconstruction of its contents. First is that you stated that having a limit on the TOC box to Level 3 headings was "unneeded". I was following the example of certain other featured character lists such as Characters of Final Fantasy VIII and List of Naruto characters (I'm not one to speak about how well they abide by the Featured Article criteria now, but I'd imagine that all the good and featured Naruto articles are a travesty in terms of tense). Frankly, I think the TOC box looks huge and uneven without this limit, especially with that "Other members" subsection that otherwise makes no sense to me.
Second, which is significantly more minor, is why you've recently replaced the word "disband" with "dissolve" in every instance of the word I've seen on the articles. You once stated that both words basically mean the same thing, so I see no reason to not include both. That, and the official manga translation used the term "disband", hence my own use of the word. I know, we shouldn't limit ourselves to things the source material says, but is there something inaccurate about the term, or is it not "formal" enough, or merely a personal preference? User:Immblueversion (talk) 02:59, 21 February 2015 (UTC)
- I saw the page this morning and I'm grateful that you reinstated the limit. On another note, I'd like an opinion: do you think we should rename Carla "Charles" on Wikipedia since that is officially stated in Kodansha's translation of Volume 27 to be her official name in Japan, and the basis of シャルル? Or is the way it's been written to explain the change it sufficient enough? I've started a discussion. User:Immblueversion (talk) 14:11, 21 February 2015 (UTC)

WikiCup 2015 March newsletter
That's it, the first round is done, sign-ups are closed and we're into round 2. 64 competitors made it into this round, and are now broken into eight groups of eight. The top two of each group will go through to round 3, and then the top scoring 16 "wildcards" across all groups. Round 1 saw some interesting work on some very important articles, with the round leader Freikorp (submissions) owing most of his 622 points scored to a Featured Article on the 2001 film Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within which qualified for a times-two multiplier. This is a higher score than in previous years, as Godot13 (submissions) had 500 points in 2014 at the end of round 1, and our very own judge, Sturmvogel_66 (submissions) led round 1 with 601 points in 2013.
In addition to Freikorp's work, some other important articles and pictures were improved during round one, here's a snapshot of a few of them:
- Cwmhiraeth (submissions) took Bumblebee, a level-4 vital article, to Good Article;
- AHeneen (submissions) worked-up the Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 article, also to Good Article status;
- Rodw (submissions) developed an extremely timely article to Good Article, taking Magna Carta there some 800 years after it was first sealed;
- And last but not least, Godot13 (submissions) (FP bonus points) worked up a number of Featured Pictures during round 1, including the 1948 one Deutsche Mark (pictured right), receiving the maximum bonus due to the number of Wikis that the related article appears in.
You may also wish to know that The Core Contest is running through the month of March. Head there for further details - they even have actual prizes!
If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! Fall to his death
Hiya Sjones, regarding the "falls to his death" vs "dies" dispute at Beauty and the Beast (1991 film) which has popped up in my watchlist a few times to say the least ([2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9] etc), I'm going to respectfully propose that maybe it's time to hang up the gloves on this since we're caught in an endless loop of POV editing. And though I am annoyed with the silent IP user(s) who keep changing it without discussion, I also actually prefer the clearer version "falls to his death". Can ye be swayed, m'friend? I noticed on the List of Fairy Tail characters that you removed the furigana for some phrases (e.g., Natsu's nickname "Salamander"), but left them intact for others (e.g., "Dragon Slayer"). Is there a particular reason why? User:Immblueversion (talk) 19:30, 24 March 2015 (UTC)

Reception Section for High School DxD Characters
Hello, I was browsing through the editing history and noticed it was you who originally created a reception section for this area
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_High_School_DxD_characters#Reception
I'm not an expert at wikipedia editing/sourcing so if you don't mind could you include the information for me? (if it interests you)
I found a very detailed review by Behind The Voice Actors (BTVA) specifically about the anime's English dub
http://www.behindthevoiceactors.com/reviews/High-School-DxD-The-Complete-Series-Review/
More opinions is never a bad thing is it?
You're the pro so I suppose copy/paste whatever lines or paragraphs you think are most suitable to use.
Also worth noting that Jamie Marchi won 2 BTVA Anime Dub Awards (Staff Choice and People's Choice) for "Best Female Vocal Performance in an Anime Television Series" her role as Rias Gremory for the High School DxD season 1 English dub.
http://www.behindthevoiceactors.com/btva-anime-awards/2013/television/
High School DxD New (season 2) also won the BTVA Anime Dub Award (Staff Choice) for "Best Vocal Ensemble in an Anime TV Series"
http://www.behindthevoiceactors.com/btva-anime-awards/2014/television/
So overall lots of positive reception!
Hope you'll consider including these suggestions!

Fairy Tail English air dates
Hey the original English air dates of the FT lists need some work. For instance, the first few episodes have YouTube dates, in addition some of the seasons seem to have used the BD/DVD release dates in place of actual TV broadcast dates. Do you have any sources with Funimation Channel's listings because I could find nothing online. If we cant fix this, I think we should just blank all the English dates and start again because I really don't trust them at this time. —KirtMessage 19:51, 3 May 2015 (UTC)

The second round one has all wrapped up, and round three has now begun! Congratulations to the 34 contestants who have made it through, but well done and thank you to all contestants who took part in our second round. Leading the way overall was Cas Liber (submissions) in Group B with a total of 777 points for a variety of contributions including Good Articles on Corona Borealis and Microscopium - both of which received the maximum bonus.
Special credit must be given to a number of high importance articles improved during the second round.
- Coemgenus (submissions) was one of several users who worked on improving Ulysses S. Grant. Remember, you do not need to work on an article on your own - as long as each person has completed significant work on the article during 2015, multiple competitors can claim the same article.
- Cwmhiraeth (submissions) took Dragonfly to Good Article for a 3x bonus - and if that wasn't enough, they also took Damselfly there as well for a 2x bonus.
- LeftAire (submissions) worked up Alexander Hamilton to Good Article for the maximum bonus. Hamilton was one of the founding fathers of the United States and is a level 4 vital article.
The points varied across groups, with the lowest score required to gain automatic qualification was 68 in Group A - meanwhile the second place score in Group H was 404, which would have been high enough to win all but one of the other Groups! As well as the top two of each group automatically going through to the third round, a minimum score of 55 was required for a wildcard competitor to go through. We had a three-way tie at 55 points and all three have qualified for the next round, in the spirit of fairness. The third round ends on June 28, with the top two in each group progressing automatically while the remaining 16 highest scorers across all four groups go through as wildcards. Good luck to all competitors for the third round! Figureskatingfan (talk · contribs · email), Miyagawa (talk · contribs · email) and Sturmvogel 66 (talk · contribs · email) 16:43, 4 May 2015 (UTC)

Edits on Page 'Christadelphians
Sjones23, thank you for your recent edits to the aforementioned page. It was noted that you removed 6 edits by the one editor. You may not have noticed that in the intro. there is a specific mention of the Jews and the 3rd millennium which was also added by the same editor whose edits you reverted in this instance. Originally this edit was reverted by myself but then reverted by another editor because it was sourced. I believe that although this edit was sourced, like the edits you reverted, it was inappropriate. My issues have been detailed in the talk page. Because you reverted these edits by same user who added these comments, I thought you may also like to review the section of the introduction which I am referring to. Please refer to the section in the talk page about this. Thanking you Lintonna (talk) 03:34, 11 May 2015 (UTC)
- User:Lintonna see section below. It seems you would be right to revert again the 3rd millenium comment you reverted as the source given looks bloggish / self published. Also as a no longer new user you might want to turn your user page blue, rather than be a redlink, cheers. In ictu oculi (talk) 05:51, 11 May 2015 (UTC)
Sjones23, I continually thank you for your dedicated Wikipedia editing. I have taken note of the edit war currently occurring on the page Christadelphians with an editor who is currently subject of a 'sock' investigation. I have reverted the edit and instructed the editor to continue the discussion on the talk page. I commend your efforts of course however hope that we can try to resolve this issue away from an edit war. Like yourself, I will continually monitor the page and talk page on this article to try to stop more edits of this kind by this user without consensus.Lintonna (talk) 13:43, 23 May 2015 (UTC)

- I also noticed the revert you made of Prinsgezinde the user mentions above, the edit summary, unless I have misread it, seemed to suggest a sock of another user Acoma Magic. If this is a sock then shouldn't an SPI be initiated and both users blocked? In ictu oculi (talk) 05:46, 11 May 2015 (UTC)

Nyan Koi! again
Have you found any additional reviews for the series? I would recommend the lead of the article be expanded to include a one or two sentence summary of what the series is about. - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 13:31, 23 July 2015 (UTC)

Gaithersburg, Maryland disruptor
Hi Sjones, the editor you reverted in this edit is someone I have encountered before. I've taken them to ANI a few times (for instance here) They're typically known for adding excessive and redundant adjectives "He fell head-over-heels madly in romantic love for her" as well as silently removing all talk page notices. I'm working with Euryalus on how to deal with this. Although as a new admin I can block the IP, I want to be sure there's no issue with me being WP:INVOLVED. Anyhow, just wanted to give you some info. Regards, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 18:45, 1 August 2015 (UTC)

List of Kill la Kill characters
Just had another wave of edits on the List of Kill la Kill characters that put in a pile of detail. I tried to trim most of it out so it was readable, but would like your copyedit and content help to check if I missed any cruft to delete or detail that should be added back. Thanks. Hope things are going well with your editing projects. AngusWOOF (bark • sniff) 17:22, 7 August 2015 (UTC)
