Hume Central Secondary College, located in the City of Hume, serves the Broadmeadows area with a total student enrolment of approximately 1200 students and growing.

The strength of Hume Central Secondary College is our strong commitment as a Learning Community to nurture and develop confident learners who have the knowledge, skills and attributes to shape their futures and contribute positively to society. Our vision is achieved through the commitment of all members of the College Learning Community.

The College has three state-of-the- art recently built Campuses, two Year 7-9 Campuses located at Blair Street and Dimboola Road and a Year 10-12 Campus on the south west corner of the Town Park. The Blair Street Campus also includes the Hume Central English Language Centre, a Year 7-10 facility providing for the language learning needs of newly arrived students to Australia.

The academic success of our students is ensured by a new and updated Year 7-12 curriculum combined with dedicated teachers and support staff to teach and nurture students. Our focus is keeping all students engaged and interested in their education so they stay on to successfully complete Year 12. Our excellent results in VCE ensure that over 97% of our students secure a tertiary placement in either University or TAFE. This can only be achieved when our students, parents and teachers work together in partnership.

The Careers and Pathways team is a central component of supporting our students to achieve success at school and beyond. Our curriculum and pastoral care programs promote academic rigor and achievement whilst, at the same time, they provide the structure and care to support our students and their families to achieve rewarding personal and academic outcomes.

History

Hume Central Secondary College was established in the Broadmeadows Schools Regeneration Project in August 2007; through the merge of Hillcrest Secondary College, Erinbank Secondary College and Broadmeadows Secondary College a 3 campus school consisting of 2 Junior campuses and 1 Senior campus was formed.

Each of the founding Secondary Colleges brings a proud history to Hume Central Secondary College. This history is diverse and the best parts have been incorporated into our College. As part of the merger, Hume Central has worked on the Curriculum and Teaching and Learning practice to reflect how children are learning in the 21st century.

INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC

We currently offer an extensive Instrumental Program; Tuition is delivered individually or in small group in guitar, drums, woodwind, percussion and voice. The College ensures that all students participating in the Instrumental Program have regular opportunities to perform in both informal and formal settings.  Currently students can develop and extend their skills in small group ensembles that perform for students, staff and other members of the school community during assemblies, special events and concerts. Our teachers provide enhancement to educational learning through excursions and incursions.  It is believed that these will give students wider understandings and experiences.

EXCURSIONS AND CAMPS

The College Excursion and Incursion Policy aims to provide students with opportunities to experience a range of activities and experiences, and develop their understanding of their world and the opportunities available to them by enriching the curriculum and improving student connectedness to the College.

Further these activities aim:

•             To reinforce and extend classroom learning

•             To provide a program that delivers skills and knowledge that may lead to a lifelong involvement in worthwhile leisure pursuits

•             To provide a program that promotes self-esteem, resourcefulness, independence, leadership, judgement, cooperation and tolerance

•             To provide connectedness and build relationships between all members of our College Community

Campuses

Town Park; Senior Campus Years 10-12

Town Park Senior Campus completed its full construction on 4th February 2011. The Senior Campus incorporates leading edge design with the latest thinking in teaching and learning to give students access to a contemporary environment. Students will have access to facilities such as a commercial kitchen, performing arts spaces and a recording studio.

Dimboola Road and Blair Street; Junior Campus Years 7-9

Dimboola Road and Blair Street Campus opened in 2009 with new facilities that complement how students learn in the 21st century. The state-of-the-art design see students work in self-contained year level learning areas, which are open plan with flexible spaces that can be quickly and easily adapted for different types of learning activities. For example, some students can be reading quietly in one area while other students are working as a group on computers in another area. The spaces give students the chance to learn in ways that best suit their needs and allows for innovative and shared teaching. Clever design techniques, such as different ceiling heights, are used to keep noise levels to a minimum. The Campus is environmentally friendly with the new spaces making plenty of use of natural light and ventilation to ensure optimal learning conditions.

The Dimboola Road Campus shares its site with Broadmeadows Valley Primary School while Blair Street Campus also shares its site with Hume Central Secondary College English Language Centre, which caters for Years 7-10 Students who have recently arrived in Australia and the Broadmeadows Primary School.
