A new reference tool
Hello Books & Bytes subscribers. There is a new Visual Editor reference feature in development called Citoid. It is designed to "auto-fill" references using a URL or DOI. We would really appreciate you testing whether TWL partners' references work in Citoid. Sharing your results will help the developers fix bugs and improve the system. If you have a few minutes, please visit the testing page for simple instructions on how to try this new tool. Regards, MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:47, 10 April 2015 (UTC)
Re VPN Unlimited
VeVeMe (talk) 07:31, 1 September 2015 (UTC)Hi Jimfbleak,
I want to add an info about VPN Unlimited on wiki. This is one of the leading VPN's on Mac. It has spent two months in Top 10 productivity apps of 30 countries, including USA, China and UK, on the Mac App Store. The user base is nearly 2.5 mln and it grows for 100-150k every month. The article was deleted, and I wanted to ask an advise on how to make sure it doesn't get deleted again.
Thanks! VeVeMe (talk) 07:31, 1 September 2015 (UTC)

I would like to know if there is another way I could get the article published. There are many articles about companies. What is the mistake in my article. Please let me know.

Hillside World Academy
Dear Jim,
We notice that you have deleted the page that we have created for Hillside World Academy. This page is one of many that are listed under International Schools Singapore. It is a listing page that then goes to a detail page for each school. We had a listing in it for Chinese International School but the school has recently changed names so we are updated the page.
Please can you re-look and reconsider the deletion. Minuteus (talk) 02:09, 2 September 2015 (UTC)
- Minuteus, it's unreferenced, a copyright violation and spam, and you have an obvious conflict of interest. I've replied in detail on your talk page Jimfbleak - talk to me? 05:55, 2 September 2015 (UTC)
Speedy Deletion of Articles
HI Jim, You recently deleted submitted due to a A7, G11. Not sure how at least two of them can be considered as this as the are articles on prominent figures reference in published boos since deceased!!!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rajnishsinghtri (talk • contribs) 11:04, 2 September 2015 (UTC)
- Rajnishsinghtri, you can sign your comments automatically using four tildes ~~~~. I don't know what you are asking—your deleted article TrifidResearch wasn't about a person, so it can't be deceased. Criteria A7 (notability) and G11 (advertising) in any case are not restricted to living persons, they also apply to companies, events, web material and dead people. Alicerefme
Hi, I just had a look at today's COI edits and saw your block of this user. But isn't this exactly the way we recommend people with a COI to name themselves? Alicerefme = Alice at Refme, which is not a role account (that would be Refme) but a person working at Refme. Not a huge issue, so only look at this if you have time to spare. Cheers! --Randykitty (talk) 17:20, 2 September 2015 (UTC)
- Randykitty, Alicerefme was upfront about the COI, but she had edited on behalf of her company. I made it a soft block so she could immediately chose a new user name, and made that clear to her on her talk page. My view was that an editor incorporating the company name in her user name and editing on behalf of the company (as she states on her user page) the use of the company name effectively accepted a shared account. I don't remember seeing it as a policy that such a name is recommended, but if you are sure that is correct, I'm happy for you to unblock. Jimfbleak - talk to me? 18:17, 2 September 2015 (UTC)
- It's at WP:ISU. COI may be a problem, but the username is admissible (looks like I was wrong about the "recommended, though). At this point it is not my impression that the editor is editing in an overly promotional way justifying a block. This kind of usernames ("John Doe at Foo company") have the advantage that they are pretty upfront about the potential COI. As long as it isn't "John and Jane Doe at Foo company", we usually regard this as a non-shared account, until the opposite is proven. --Randykitty (talk) 22:30, 2 September 2015 (UTC)
- Randykitty, fair enough, I've unblocked Alicerefme and notified her accordingly, thanks Jimfbleak - talk to me? 06:16, 3 September 2015 (UTC)

I see you deleted User:Christian dave palad as a G7 because the creator blanked their userpage. I have always declined deleting userpages when the user blanks their userpage (or subpage) and someone else comes by and tags it as G7. The reason I do is because of the line in G7 that says "If the sole author blanks a page other than a userspace page, a category page, or any type of talk page, this can be taken as a deletion request." This implies to me that they are not eligible for deletion under G7. Just wondering your thoughts. -- GB fan 11:06, 3 September 2015 (UTC)
- Well, GB fan, it's quite common to get the create user page->A7->blank sequence. It seems clear to me in that situation, as with User:Christian dave palad, that the user has realised there is a problem and has blanked the page, usually seen by new users as equivalent to deletion. Although it's not specifically indicated in G7, it's difficult to see what other intention the page creator would have. I'm unconvinced that the A7 definition excludes all other pages in all circumstances Jimfbleak - talk to me? 11:17, 3 September 2015 (UTC)

Deletion of NOAA Center for Atmospheric Sciences
Hey, Jim! I am contacting you about your deletion of the article NOAA Center for Atmospheric Sciences under G11 (advertisment) and G12 (copyright infringement). I am contacting you as an OTRS volunteer where we appear to have received a statement from the original author of the text releasing the copyright under a suitable license (OTRS Ticket#2015061710019473). The client seems anxious to have the article restored... Though of course this does not address the issue of unambiguous advertising... Thoughts? Please let me know. Thanks! - Hi KDS4444. It's highly promotional, sourced only to their mission statement(!), an orphan and the editor has an obvious COI (not sure why I didn't indef block the user as a spam name). It has no chance of survival in anything close to its present form, so no point restoring, and would be better written from scratch rather than trying to extract something from the mess. I'll contact the creator directly to see if there is a way forward. Thanks for the heads-up. Jimfbleak - talk to me? 16:26, 3 September 2015 (UTC)
- Wow. That paints a picture, don't it? And in an article that looks like it is about a government project of some kind, to boot (where I'd expect the promotion to be mostly absent). I will make a note on the OTRS ticket and probably send a note to the creator myself. KDS4444Talk 19:07, 3 September 2015 (UTC)

I wish that you would have at least gave me a chance to change or correct although I fail to see your reason for deletion of my user page here at Wikipedia. Used a lot of my time into my user page especially talking about me being Deaf and that I advocate for Deaf community then to find that my user page were deleted with no warning or any suggestion by you so I could change whatever wasn't complying with the Wikipedia's policy. :( I take it that your immediate deletion of my user page is final where there is no way I could get it back but change it to try to comply with the policy? And my user page were deleted by you just 2-3 hours after I created and was still unfinished because I am a beginner trying to learn and making sure that I wasn't doing anything wrong but I was given no time by you to finish my user page after learning the basics of Wikipedia. Thanks for your reply!
Thank you for letting me know what I wasn't following, as I wasn't so sure how it goes at first as I have mentioned that I am still new to Wikipedia and trying to learn as much as I can in a little of time. As you said that nothing is lost, how can I retrieve my user page so I use the text I wrote to change/remove to try to follow what you said and try my best to improve from there. I recall I didn't say "well known blogger" I said "one of well-known bloggers" but you are absolutely right that there should be some references, should have thought of that in the first place and also on how I took action in against telecommunications for the internet usage to help Deaf or Hard of Hearing people to increase their internet usage for their video phone from video relay service.. Problem is.. No news ever spotlight on anything related to Deaf so references for that is very hard to find because for some news outlet or such seems to ignore something that was a big deal going on with Deaf community. Reference? I'd love to know but you'd have to ask news outlet that about why they will not spotlight on Deaf issues but that just it is. As for advertising, I thought about that and realized that I shouldn't repeat my website in that sentence or some sentences in that page and instead having one link to my weblog is enough rather than few so mistake is on me. Nonetheless you said nothing is lost, great news but how do I get all of my text I wrote back so I can do some changes on it and improve from there? Greatly appreciated.
Thank you, kindly. - Joshie (talk) 09:04, 6 September 2015 (UTC)
Improving
Hello User:Jimfbleak I have been trying to improve as my best as I could, still unfinished though as I am working on adding more information at the moment. But could you take a look at my userpage and see if it is improved from the last userpage that you have deleted? I searched thoroughly to make sure that I don't advertise as much at all, it only has one external link to my blog but that is it. Added one reference to one of my activist (Nelson Mandela Fake Interpreter) but I'd greatly appreciate if you can give me a advice or something on how can I do reference or such under the activist/advocacy titled "Telecommunication Limited Deaf Community Access to Communication" where there are none as I have mentioned earlier that news very rarely have a spotlight on the Deaf or Deaf community issues? I have emails that I took a action to a telecommunication company directly which will speak of my action (and this after taking the act to the point that it pressured them into doing something right where they sent me emails with papers where if you are Deaf or Hard of Hearing they would offer you increases if your DR signs the paper) but the problem is... I was the only one who took the act in this, hence the email and also some over at Twitter DM which I can screenshot them. But in order for me to have a reference to that is to write an article with proof (screenshots, emails etc) at my blog as it'd be the best option to go but somebody might think it's advertise or something because it'd be come directly from my blog (it would never be my intention to spam in the first place anyway). How do I go about this? For the reference? Any helps, really would be very appreciated!
Thank you, kindly. - Joshie (talk) 08:59, 7 September 2015 (UTC)

Hi Jim, I was notified of your deletion of File:Karanvir Bohra's Signature.png. Just FYI, signatures are typically not considered "original" enough to generate a copyright. See WP:SLP, and Template:PD-text ("unoriginal information which is common property without sufficiently creative authorship in a general typeface or basic handwriting, and simple geometric shapes are not protected by copyright"). I don't really have any specific interest in this signature, but I thought you may want to be aware. Facebook's policies has no bearing on this. Jujutacular (talk) 17:16, 6 September 2015 (UTC)

Kate Horsley (UK author)
Hi Jim, I was notified that you deleted a page I created yesterday on the grounds that it was intended as advertising. I was a bit surprised because it was not the intention of the page, which was intended as a disambiguation of Kate Horsley, a UK author, from Kate Horsley, a US author who has a page here (Kate_Horsley) . The page for Barbican Press (Barbican_Press contained a link to the US author rather than the correct UK one and I wished to add a page for this separate author to disambiguate. I did not mean to advertise anything and it did not occur to me that Amazon links would do this. I absolutely take the point about advertising now you have made it and am grateful for the guidelines you've given. I believe there is a good case for this page to exist because of its link to the existing Wikipedia article for Barbican Press and the newspaper articles ttp://www.scotsman.com/lifestyle/books/kate-horsley-found-frankenstein-s-bride-in-orkney-1-3577104/ref> supporting the veracity of the entry. So I would be very grateful if you could provide some guidelines for restoring the page in edited form with any suggestions of advertising removed so that it may disambiguate the two authors. I need to tell you that we published that Wikipedia article during my tenure at Durham University in 2009. Please notice that there is no possibility to infringe copyright of a document that was published four years later (2013).
I have seen the article in conflict, which: 1) contain very similar information to that of our deleted Wikipedia article, the authors went a bit far by copying even one mistake from our Wikipedia article!
There a other flaws in that PDF, it 2) omitted several peer-reviewed review-papers on microbial enhance oil recovery (pay per view type). 3) was published in a non ISI, scopus journal. 4) lacks of proper citing and referencing.
Another thing you need to know is that to avoid plagiarism we use crossref and turnitin. I think the person that runs the plagiarism checking tool on your side needs to be aware that others may copy Wikipedia content and we may not be the wrongdoers.

China Aid deleted page
Hi Jim, My name is Ava Collins and I wanted to send you a message regarding the China Aid Wikipedia page that was deleted this May. The original article was written by User:honestreporters and on that account's talk page you listed multiple issues with the original article. I am a China Aid employee who has been asked to try to write a new version of the page, one which will be in line with Wikipedia's guidelines and policies. The original page author, who submitted the page under the User:honestreporters account was also a China Aid employee, but had little familiarity with Wikipedia policy and encyclopedic writing. I've now taken over her duties and have been asked to draft a more acceptable page.
A few points I want to address would be COI and copyright. As an employee, I have a very obvious COI that needs to be declared if my page is published. I'm aware of many of the issues involved in COI writing, and will work to keep article tone as neutral and purely informational as possible. As my predecessor mostly copied directly from our website, I recognize that her tone was excessively promotional, as mission statements and company websites are wont to be.
In addition, the copy & paste method from the website is not allowable I realize, as our website’s text is not public domain – hence the copyright violation flag we summoned before. As such I would be rewriting the entire article from scratch, using the website as a source of information, not a source of text. The rewrite should also help ameliorate the tone issues as well, as capturing a passive and neutral explanation will be my priority.
I look forward to your response and hope that we can work to create a page that will be a resource for the Wikipedia community.

Dear Jim,
Thanks for you kind advise. I will try to include more relevant references/source and make some improvement on it. Actually i was writing on notepad rather than on wikipedia straight away. :) If i straight write on wiki can i like make it invisible to public first so that i have enough of time to add in more relevant source or references and so on because as you know i just save the works not more than half a day and it's being deleted without having chance to correct it or make it a better article. Please advise because i'm really new to this. Thank you. Hope to hear from you soon. :)

Recreating an Article
Hi Jim,
I tried creating a page titled Jasmin Vardimon and I sent it off for review but unfortunately it got declined. It stated there was a copyright issue with one aspect within my article, saying "14:55, 7 September 2015 Jimfbleak (talk | contribs) deleted page Draft:Jasmin Vardimon (G12: Unambiguous copyright infringement of http://jasminvardimon.com/bio/jasmin-vardimon/)".
I am still aiming to write a wikipedia article with the title of 'Jasmin Vardimon', but it was advised to talk to you before writing an article with similar content. I want to check that as it was only one aspect of the article which caused an error, if I re-use the majority of my previous article, but minus the one aspect of the copyright infringement, if this is acceptable? As I am under the impression that the rest of the article was written under the correct guidelines and rules of Wikipedia, it seems a shame to not be able to use the article, if you could let me know that would be greatly appreciated.
Kind regards Faye
