Anar Hasanov (Template:Lang-az) is an Azerbaijani diplomat who came into light by exposing corruption acts in the Azerbaijani Embassy to Australia. He reported embezzlement and illegal drug and tobacco business in which Rovshan Jamshidov, ambassador of Azerbaijan to Australia, and accountant of the embassy were involved.[1] But instead of investigating his revelations, Hasanov himself was dismissed from his post and recalled back by the Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan. The latter claimed in its statement to the local press incompetency of Hasanov as a diplomat, also declaring his revealations of corruption facts as a slander. In his response, Anar Hasanov published positive descriptions issued by numerous high profile Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry officials for him, also citing his significant educational background in diplomacy and international relations.
Background
Anar Hasanov is a graduate of Baku State University (faculty of international relations) , M.A. (with distinction), Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy (now ADA University), Netherlands Institute of International Relations Clingendael and Estonian School of Diplomacy. He has served in the Azerbaijani missions in Romania and Australia.
Corruption revelations in the Azerbaijani Embassy in Canberra
In Septemer 7, 2015, a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan against Anar Hasanov circulated in the local press, saying he has misbehaved in diplomatic service, who passed on classfied documents to the media, without elaborating further. Later, in his interview to the Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, Anar Hasanov said he has been targeted by the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry authorities for his revelations of corruption facts at the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Canberra, where he served as diplomat. Anar Hasanov is also said, in local press called on Ilham Aliyev, president of Azerbaijan, to dismiss Elmar Mammadyarov, Foreign minister and other high Foreign Ministry officials, declaring them corrupt and flawed, who ignore or cover up misdeeds of Azerbaijani ambassadors,as it was in the case of Rovshan Jamshidov.
