Huxlow Science College is a secondary school and sixth form with academy status, located in Irthlingborough, Northamptonshire, England. It was founded in 1962 and was previously known as Finedon and Irthlingborough Secondary Modern School.[1] Previously a specialist Science College, the school converted to academy status in April 2012. However the school continues to offer science as a specialism.

The current Head Teacher is Mr S Gordon. There were 804 students on roll in the 2013-2014 college year, including around 100 students in the Sixth Form, which is shared with two other local schools. There are 47 teachers (full-time equivalent) and 36 support staff.[2]

Feeder schools

The College gains its Year 7 students from primary schools in Irthlingborough and Finedon, as well as numerous schools in surrounding villages.

Sixth form provision

The college does not produce enough sixth form students to make an independent sixth form viable, and so it is part of the East Northamptonshire College with two other local schools (The Ferrers Specialist Arts College and Rushden Community College), as well as Prince William School in Oundle.[3] The Head of Sixth Form is Jacqueline Holmes.

Achievement

In the College's latest Ofsted report in 2014,[4] the College was deemed to be "requiring improvement" in all main areas (achievement, quality of teaching, behaviour and leadership/management).
