Aasif Mandvi (Aasif H. Mandviwala, born 1973 in Chicago) is the "Middle Eastern Affairs Correspondent" for The Daily Show, as of August 9th, 2006. He also had a limited but memorable role as Mr. Aziz of "Joe's Pizza" in Spider-Man 2, the one with Doc Ock. He also used to be in a New York-based band, Cowboys and Indian, where he was the Indian guitar player. He left the band to concentrate more on acting. The band was based on one of the bands in the movie American Chai, in which Aasif played "Engineering Sam," the marginally sexist engineering student (but did not play an instrument in the movie). He primarily plays the role of the typical Middle Eastern/South Asian person when cast. He has been in numerous shows, from bit parts on The Sopranos, Sex and the City to CSI and various flavors of Law and Order, including Criminal Intent and Trial by Jury.
