Fred Basset is a comic strip about an eponymous Basset Hound. The cartoon was created by Scottish cartoonist Alex Graham and first appeared in the Daily Mail on July 8 1963.

The cartoon strip features the dog in a number of situations that many find to be more matter-of-fact than humorous. Some have gone so far as to suggest that the strip had a final panel each day that was cut off prior to printing. Most of the strip's intended draw comes from the simple anthropomorphic pleasure of "what would life be like for a basset hound?".

In the late 1970's the comic strip's name and likeness were licensed to a Louisville, KY restaurant franchise named Fred Basset's place.
