Deane not Youngest Son of John Winthrop
Deane Winthrop is often reported as the youngest son of Governor John Winthrop. He was John Winthrop's sixth son and he was also the last of Winthrop's children to die (in 1704), but Winthrop's third wife Margaret Tyndal bore him four additional children (including three sons) after Deane was born in 1623 in Groton Manor, Suffolk, England:
- 1624 - Nathaniel Winthrop (Groton Manor, Suffolk, England) - died in infancy
- 1627 - Samuel Winthrop (Groton Manor, Suffolk, England) - died in 1674 in Antigua, West Indies
- 1630 - Anne Winthrop (Groton Manor, Suffolk, England) - died at sea in 1631 on the crossing to America
- 1632 - William Winthrop (Boston, Massachusetts Bay Colony) - died in infancy
Thus the youngest son of Gov John Winthrop was William Winthrop, but the youngest son to survive beyond childhood was Samuel Winthrop, who was Governor of Antigua 1668-1671, dying at there in 1674 at the age of c. 47. [1] IACOBVS (talk) 22:28, 29 December 2015 (UTC)
