Incomplete sentence

"At his peak, the 6 ft 5 in[2] (195 cm) Ferrigno's contest weight was 285 lb[2] (130 kg) and he was the tallest professional bodybuilder at that time. WHILE HE NEVER BESTED SCHWARZENEGGER (sic) IN BODYBUILDING." [capitalized by me] This sentence is incomplete and seems to be the remnant of a previous edit. Maybe someone else can shed light on this. Discussion

Just have an issue with the '80% deaf' statement - deafness isn't generally measured in percentages. There is variation of hearing ability across people with normal hearing - some people can hear softer sounds than normal or higher frequencies outside the range of what most people can hear. In the article's case, I would ask, '80% of what?'

Audiologists measure deafness by the softest sound an individual can hear, for example, a '45 decibel hearing loss' means that a person cannot hear any sounds below 45 decibels, and so on.

Rather than saying '80% deaf', I suggest it be replaced with 'profoundly deaf', as it would be more accurate. While we could speculate what Mr. Ferringo's decibel loss is, only he would know for sure!

Sorry, but Ferrigno himself has discussed his hearing loss in percentage terms. I, on the other hand, have a problem with the word "permanently." I saw him on some talk show during or shortly after the original network run of Hulk, where he indicated he had surgery that restored enough of his hearing that he could hear something close to normally with hearing aids. This is when he gave percentages, saying that before the surgery his hearing was something like 10% in one ear and 35% in the other, and after & with aids it was 75% and 90% (I am wide open to correction on these four specific numbers, but not to the general effect). However, as I can't find a source now to back me up on the basic idea of surgery+hearing aids (and I have checked several online bios), I have refrained from so amending the article. The "Personal Life" section now starts with "Ferrigno sees his loss of hearing as influential towards bodybuilding". Nowhere in the preceding discussion does it mention his hearing loss nor does it say why he lost his hearing.

Steroids

Did he ever use steroids? Most professional bodybuilders do, but I don't know if he is the type, or if he would still use them.

Hard to say. And it would be more accurate to say "many" pro bodybuilders do. Also, the amount of steroids that were used in the 60's and 70's (dosages that is) were tiny compared to those used today. Whisperednumber 12:31, 11 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]


Lou absolutely used anabolic steroids. All professional bodybuilders who competed did and still do. It would of been impossible to compete in the IFBB ranks without using anabolic steroids the same as today. It is also absolutely impossible to build a physique like Lou's without the aid of anabolic steroids. It's physiologically impossible to get the amount of skeletal muscle that he has without them. That's not true. Not everyone cheats & uses steroids to get a good physique. Besides, Lou started weightlifting when he was 13, it's not hard to believe that he was able to develop a good physique like that. Son of Kong

No, You're deluding yourself if you believe he did not use anabolic steroids. At his height and weight and amount of lean body mass it's literally impossible to have that amount of muscle without using anabolic steroids. It does not matter how young he started lifting weights. All competing professional bodybuilders from the 1970's up used anabolic steroids of some form, most of them used numerous types of steroids. In the Professional bodybuilding using anabolic steroids is not considered 'cheating' because everyone else is using them.Wikidudeman (talk) 19:13, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Most Bodybuilder´s used Steroids to keep there size, with Arnold Schwarzenegger being one example. Though, in Lou´s case, im not sure. Also, I wouldn´t rule out that he has taken Growth Hormones. --Wikikidboy 07:12, 23 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Son of Kong whilst you're correct not everybody "cheats and uses steroids to get a good physique". Birthyear

Unfortunately, his official site doesn't clearly say. Schwarzenegger.it site says 1951, IMDb says 1952. However, IMDb is not really an authority on anything but film credits. The other site is unofficial, so it's also not authoritative. However, his official site says he was 21 when he won his first Mr. Universe, which must mean the IFBB contest in 1973. This is consistent with a 1951 birthdate; he would not turn 22 until November, 1973. I've added this to the article footnote. Gimmetrow 12:20, 11 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I really wonder if Lou ever was 6'5". He has said himself that his peak height was 6'4 1/2", the known source for that is CelebHeights. And if he really was 6'5" then I wonder why he has lost almost two inches??? He is just a shade over 6'3" now. Volkov talk 19:20, 5 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm watching celeb apprentice right now and standing in a line up he looks about as tall as everyone else, and at least a few inches shorter than the 6'5" Penn Gillette. Calf Implants

No mention in the article regarding Lou's alleged calf implants. I was at a seminar in the early 1990's it was about 10 days after the Masters Olympia, his calves looked weird and really ugly I took a lot of photo's and they sure looked like calf implants to me. There is a difference between including an image of an actors notable live action role when it is one of a handful and an integral part of the actors notability and including an image of a character the actor provided a rare voice over for.

If the above concern(s) can be addressed in light of the relevant policies and/or guidelines, the image use can be retained. If not, the image needs to be removed from the article.

The issue with Hulk2008.jpg has been addressed.

Hulk: the footballer

The original name "Hulk" was not invented for the character; see Wiktionary on "hulking" or something like that. What proof is there that the footballer is nicknamed such for his resemblance to Lou Ferrigno? -Etoile (talk) 03:06, 8 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Height and Weight

I don't care what the biography of Lou Ferrigno says, he isn't 6'5". Closer to 6'3". I saw him at Planet Comicon in KC this weekend and had my picture taken standing next to him. I'm 6'2". Thanks for pointing that out. Not only is the link cited for this material a dead link, but it's the subject's own website. Such information needs to be sourced to a secondary source, not a primary one. I've removed it. Anyone may feel free to re-add information on his height and weight, so long as they can do so with an accompanying inline citation of a reliable, secondary source. Ok, I found sources (2 to be safe), which wasn't easy because the great majority are just copied and pasted from this article. To the OP, what is listed are his competing stats, not what it is now. Edit Request August 16 2015

In Non-acting Endeavors near the end of the article, he has enough activity in Law Enforcement to have a subsection entitled "Law Enforcement" or something similar, and separate it from the miscellaneous items. Considering his father was a policeman and he has accepted so many honorary or other law enforcement positions, he must have a great commitment to Law Enforcement.
