Bhrigu Nath Singh, also known as B.N. Singh, is an Indian engineering scientist. He is currently professor and Head of the Department of Aerospace Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur.[1][2] Presently, he is Chair of the ICTACEM.[3] [4] He has discovered the enormous impact of material uncertainty on Aerospace structures response, vibratory loads and stability. He has recently developed three novel shear deformation theories AIAA Journal, 2013, which is a pioneer work in this field. [5] [6] He is one of the delegates of Aerospace Industry-Academia Conclave, HAL[7] and also had adorned for taking Lead in Establishing First Aerospace University in India. [8] [9] [10] Singh is best known for his pioneering research and works in Smart and Composite Structures,[11] Uncertainty Quantification in Aircraft Analysis & Design, Multi-scale Modelling, FGM Plates and Shells, Adaptive Nonlinear FEM, Aerospace Structures and Solid Mechanics.[1] [12]

Early life and education

B.N. Singh got his B.Tech degree in Civil Engineering and Master's in Applied mechanics from Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology Allahabad India in 1990 & 1992. Being passionate about Aeronautical Engineering six years later in 1998 Singh joined Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering at IIT Kanpur, received in 2001 and two years later obtained his Post Doctorate Fellowship from Wright State University.[13] [14]

Career

Singh joined IIT Kharagpur as an assistant professor in 2004 and later became Professor.[2] He has addressed several important problems in aerospace structures with particular focus on geometric and material nonlinearity and uncertainty. Singh has over 105 research papers published in International Journals of repute which are cited several times and has given numerous national and international talks. He has guided over a 11 PhD, 50 MTech students so far. He has handled several projects of Defence of Govt of India. He has been coordinator to train HAL design trainees for almost 3 years and Korean bachelor students for two weeks.[7] He has organized three International conferences in which more than 250 delegates from India and abroad attended.[15]

Singh has developed several mathematical models. He has first time introduced direct iterative based probabilistic procedure for handling highly nonlinear problems, which is still challenging tasks in research community. He has put forth his knowledge and ideas in some of highly rated journals.[16] He has distinction of getting his paper listed in most cited paper since 2008 and also of leading researcher in the field of uncertainty quantification.[16]

Singh is an eminent fellow of Indian Society for Technical Education India and an elected fellow of the Institute of Engineers (India) and reviewers of reputed journals.[1] [17] He has been listed among top most cited papers in Journal of Finite Elements in Analysis and Design (Elsevier) 2014.[18] Listed among most downloaded Research papers in International Journal of Mechanical sciences (2014).[18] [19]
