Rayani Air (Jawi: راياني أير) is a full service airline in Malaysia. It was previously known that Rayani Air is a budget airline, however according to its official announcement in December 2015, Rayani Air is a full service air line that is similar to Malaysia Airlines.[1] It is the fourth airline in the world that has imposed application of Sharia-Compliant to each Muslim cabin crews after Royal Brunei Airlines (RBA), Saudi Arabian Airlines and Iran Air. In addition, no alcoholic beverages or pork are served on board in accordance with Islamic dietary laws and prayers will be recited before a flight departs.
History
Rayani Airlines was founded by Ravi Alagendrran and his wife Karthiyani Govindan, both of whom are Malaysians of ethnic Indian descent.[2] The name Rayani is said to be mashup of the first names of the founders.
Previously Rayani Airlines was set to be based at Malacca International Airport somewhere in late Q4 2014 with its inaugural flight to take place in August.[3] However they changed their base to Langkawi International Airport to attract tourists to the resort island.[4]
On 20 December 2015, its inaugural flight to Langkawi (RN600) took off smoothly despite a slight delay.[5]
Its Managing Director, Jaafar Zamhari announced a 10-year target plan to establish network, and planned to acquire another 2 B737-400 and 2 B737-800 in 2017, to increase its domestic routes and flight frequencies.[6]
In a article dated January 3rd 2016, Rayani Air is considering to appoint the Mursyidul Am (Spiritual Leader) of PAS, Datuk Dr Haron Din as its advisor, in order to advise the company on how to implementing the sharia compliance concept within the company. Besides than that, they are also planning to create a cooperation with Royal Brunei Airlines in order to strengthen the concept within the aviation industry.[7]
