IndiaMART is an Indian online marketplace based in Noida, India. The company claims to have 1.5 million suppliers listed on its website, with around 10 million buyers visiting the online platform every month.
History
IndiaMART was founded by Dinesh Agarwal as a directory of websites his company InterMESH (which was started in 1996), was developing for customers in the Delhi-NCR region. In 1998, the second office of IndiaMART InterMESH Ltd. was set up in Mumbai and by 1999, the directory had more than 1000 listing.
In early 2009, IndiaMART received an undisclosed amount of funding from Intel Capital, a part of which was invested in IndiaMART One97 Communications and Global Talent Track. [3] At present, IndiaMART employs more than two thousand employees across offices in all major cities in India.
In November 2014, IndiaMART started promotional campaigns featuring Indian film actor Irrfan Khan as its brand ambassador.[4]
In February 2015, Lizzie Chapman, (at that time Executive Director, DBS Digital Bank) joined IndiaMART’s Board as a Director.[5]
Future Projections
As of 2014-2015, the revenues for IndiaMart were ₹ 225 crore with a CAGR of 35%. The company targets to increase its business to ₹ 30,000 Crore in FY16. [1] Founder Dinesh Agarwal claims to expand the B2B marketplace overseas in the European, German and Latin American markets. [6]
IndiaMart also claims to garner revenues of ₹2,000 crore by 2020 with more small and medium businesses and merchants selling on its platform. [7]
Events
In 2010, IndiaMART and financial news channel ET Now started IndiaMART Leaders of Tomorrow Awards in order to recognize the impact of SMEs (small and medium enterprise) in sustaining economic growth, increasing trade, generating employment and creating new entrepreneurs in India.[8] In association with Zee Business, IndiaMART also launched Emerging Business Forum, to provide with solutions to issues faced by Indian SMEs.[9]
Tolexo
In June 2014, IndiaMART launched Tolexo, an e-commerce platform for SMEs.[10] Tolexo.com is the ultimate destination for Business Goods & Supplies, which transforms the way businesses buy these products. It offers consumer shopping experience for the largest collection of products needed by businesses, factories, offices and laboratories.
The platform makes it easier for millions of businesses, from small to large, to buy & sell goods online, by providing technology & services that enable selection, payments, customer support & fulfillment - all as an integrated experience.
