Bartley Green School is an academy with Technology and Sports College status for pupils aged 11–16 in the Bartley Green area of Birmingham, England.
Bartley Green was first recognised as an outstanding school in 2005. We were delighted to have this rating confirmed in 2008 and again, in November 2013.
Our long history of providing such high quality education has resulted in yet another year of successful examination results.
Teaching School
Bartley Green is known nationally for its high standards. It is the reason we were chosen to be one of the first in the country to be a “Teaching School”, helping teachers from other schools to improve their teaching and the outcomes for their pupils.
We are one of a small number of schools with an outstanding Ofsted grade for the quality of our teaching in the classroom, and very few indeed will have maintained this quality over a decade!
Context of the school:
The characteristics of pupils at Bartley Green School are markedly different to the national picture.
- Around 55% of pupils are in receipt of pupil premium support, around twice the national average. Over 70% of pupils are white British, meaning that a large proportion of the cohort is ‘white working class’ which is one of the lowest achieving groups nationally.
· 25% of pupils are on the SEN register, considerably higher than the national figure of 17.7%.
This challenge must be taken into account when drawing conclusions of the schools’ academic performance relative to national.
