The musical is currently staged for a limited run at New York Theatre Workshop in Manhattan.[1] Like Bowie's contemporary album Blackstar (which shares some of the music)[2], much of the production of the musical was kept in secret until its first preview in November 2015. The musical opened on 7 December 2016[3] with a planned run through 17 January 2016.[4] Tickets to the entire run of the musical sold out within hours of being made available.[5]
The play was written by Bowie and Enda Walsh.[3] It was produced by Bowie and John Guare.[1] It is directed by Ivo van Hove.[6]
Michael C. Hall stars in the current production of the musical.[3]
