Angelia Gabrena Paglicawan Ong[1] (born June 27, 1990) is a Filipina-Chinese-Ilongga model and beauty queen who was crowned Miss Earth 2015.

She represented Iloilo City and was awarded the Face of Bb. Pilipinas 2011 special award at the Binibining Pilipinas 2011 pageant. Ong finished Second Runner-Up at Miss Manila 2014 Pageant. She represented the Philippines in the Miss Earth 2015 pageant on 5 December 2015 at Marx Halle, Vienna, Austria, where she was crowned the winner and achieving the first and historic back to back win in the pageant's history.[2]

Early life and education

Ong was born on June 27, 1990 in Lapuz Norte, Lapuz, Iloilo City. She finished her high school from Hua Siong College of Iloilo. She pursued her college education in Manila in 2012 taking up Marketing Management at the De La Salle–College of Saint Benilde.[3] She does part-time consultancy work at Manila City Hall and at a marketing firm.

Pageant career

Binibining Pilipinas 2011

She competed at Binibining Pilipinas 2011 as Bb. #7 representing Iloilo City at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City but was unplaced.

Miss Philippines Earth 2015

She was crowned Miss Philippines Earth 2015 on May 31 at the Mall of Asia Arena and represented the Philippines at Miss Earth 2015.[4] During the Question and Answer Portion, singer-actress Zsa Zsa Padilla asked about Ong's view on same sex marriage. She responded: "If the person feels he or she needs to be married to show his or her love, then I don't mind having [same] sex marriage.” "If you feel that that is love, then so be it."

Ong bested 37 other hopefuls from across the country. She was crowned Miss Philippines Earth 2015 on May 31 at SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City. She accepted her sash and crown from Miss Earth 2014 Jamie Herrell. She was also adjudged as Miss Hana Shampoo. During the activities before the coronation night, she led the Resorts Wear Contest and the Darling of the Press Poll. She placed Third in the Swimsuit, Casual Wear and Trash to Class competitions. She represented the country in the international Miss Earth competition later this year.

She said she dedicates her victory to her mother. As a single parent, her mother raised her and her brother alone. For Angelia, her mother is the perfect example of an empowered woman. She added that everything that she is now is an inspiration from her mother.

As Miss Philippines Earth, her advocacy is focused on restoration, reforestation, and minimizing carbon footprint through ecotourism.[5][6][7][8][9][10]

Her elemental court consisted of: Chanel Olive Thomas of San Antonio, Nueva Ecija (Miss Philippines Air), Catherine Joy Marin hailing from Bago City was crowned Miss Philippines Water, Carla Angela Valderrama from Siniloan, Laguna was crowned Miss Philippines Fire, and Jona Sweett from Iloilo City was crowned Miss Philippines Eco-Tourism.

Miss Earth 2015

Angelia represented the Philippines at Miss Earth 2015 on December 5 which she won and was crowned by her predecessor Jamie Herrell also from the Philippines. It took place at Marx Halle, Vienna, Austria.[11]
