14:42:59, 15 January 2016 review of submission by Penslips

I've been working on my article since last year: Dean Faulkner Wells - who is the niece of William Faulkner. I've submitted it twice, but to my surprise it was declined due to "notability". For the past 6 months I've been doing research off-line in order to locate further materials to add to my article. Last week I received an email that my article was deleted - but this is unclear to me. Upon reviewing my account, the version I last worked on was still available - and I was just able to add two more, hopefully noteworthy, lines. I just resubmitted the article for review. After submitting I saw a second note sent to me stating that I am not allowed to work in my draft any longer: Dean Faulkner Wells (2). Why? Can someone please help.

Also, I do not know what else I can do to get this article published. I've certainly seen articles on Wiki with much less and yet they are published. Dean Faulkner Wells was notable as an editor and author. Even though she has been deceased for a long time now, I was able to retrieve what I thought was a good amount of references in order for the article to be approved. I do not know where to go from here. I am at a complete loss. Any assistance would be GREATLY appreciated.

17:04:12, 15 January 2016 review of submission by Windeditor00999

Part of the reason why the most recent submission got declined, according to the reviewer this time, is that references in non-English languages were used. As I was looking for assistance from the previous reviewer, I stated that since most of the company's services are based in China, there may not be as much media coverage in English. And he or she approved of me using non-English references. I'm very confused about the sources I am supposed to use in the article, so I appreciate that if someone can give me a detailed explanation. Also, as I was referencing to other companies that do similar business as we do. I noticed that Goldwind's page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goldwind only listed one third-party source, and its page has been approved. If possible, could you tell me what our page is missing in comparison to Goldwind's? Thank you.

17:18:54, 15 January 2016 review of submission by Jesus Rey-Joly

Hi, User:Jesus Rey-Joly. I just had a look at the draft. I clicked through on some of the references and there are some problems. If you haven't already done so, go read wp:rs which is the page about "reliable sources." You've used some sources that don't meet the criteria there. For example, the svrproducciones source is a sales site, and that is not a reliable source. I know that you were intending to link to proof that the album exists, but in this case it's best not. The "list of students by teacher" and the Zoominfo entry also should be removed. If you would like, I could go through and edit out the sources that shouldnt' be there, then we could see where the gaps are. I think we can make this work. LaMona (talk) 16:45, 13 January 2016 (UTC)

Hi, LaMona, I have deleted the references you mentioned and I'll be willing to do any more amendments as required. Please tell me if the draft still requires something and I'll be glad to comply.

11:31:06, 16 January 2016 review of submission by Prabhat 9

Hello, How do I change the title of the article I created in the draft space? I have finished writing the article in the draft space and wish to submit it for review. There has been a spelling mistake:"Chinonophobia" instead of "Chionophobia".Please help!!

Prabhat 9 (talk) 11:31, 16 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

User:Prabhat 9/Chinonophobia was not in draft space, it was in your user space. Either way, it no longer exists, it has been deleted as a copyright violation. Maproom (talk) 17:40, 17 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

10:12:20, 17 January 2016 review of submission by Pepino2410

Hi there,

my intention was to translate an existing article in German wikipedia into English. Sarah Tkotsch is a known person here in Germany who plays in television-series as an actress. Here German wikipedia article https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarah_Tkotsch

so she is a notable person. She has already an article in wikipedia. Because of that I don't know what I can do to "improve" the english Version. It is a translation.

11:58:42, 17 January 2016 review of submission by FilipeBSilva

This article was debied publication based on the reason that there is already an existing wikipedia article with the title "Self-Healing Material". However, the existing article covers only part of the subject and is mainly concerned with self-healing polymers only. In the present piece, we assembled a much more complete view of the subject of self-healing materials.

We now propose to use the contents of this draft to greatly improve the contents of "Self-Healing Material" while shifting the contents of the existing page to a new article called "Self-Healing Polymer".

The background of the effort to write this Wikipedia contribution: We are a group of 15 PhD fellows all working together in the EU Marie-Curie Research Training network on "Self-Healing Materials - from Concepts to Market", covering various material classes that are designed for an increased sustainability by providing a strategy for self-repair. This is an active area of materials research and currently the first examples of materials with improved self-repair find their way into application. During one of our last meetings we found that the existing Wikipedia Article on "Self-Healing Materials" covers only a very small area of the existing material classes: it is indeed concentrated on polymers only. However, there a far more classes of materials that are currently developed for self-healing capability. As such, we combined our efforts to write an article that covers more classes of materials, including ceramics, metals, asphalt, concrete, composites, ... Our suggestion is the following: The existing page is actually a quite nice sum up for Self-Healing Polymers and should be renamed accordingly. Simultaneously, the new article can be uploaded as "Self-Healing Materials" and will contain also a link on the page more specializing on the polymer aspect.

What do you think? And if this is approved, what is the best way to proceed with it?

Hi FilipeBSilva, another option is to simply add the content of your draft to the existing article followed by editing to remove duplication and maintain the logical flow and structure of the combined article. Imho it's better to have a single fairly comprehensive article about a subject than to subdivide it into multiple shorter subtopics. It's only when the text length of an article exceeds 100kB that we really have to consider splitting it. A practical consideration is that creating a new different article under the title of an existing article, which has been moved, ends up having links to the older article pointing to the new one instead, which gets confusing. 11:00:17, 18 January 2016 review of submission by Durgakirankumar

This is an article about an Indian writer who lived in the 1900s. As he lived in a time before internet online references are hard to find. Though there are news paper articles in the archives they get inaccessible over time. Kindly suggest me a solution.

Hello @Durgakirankuma:, it is perfectly correct to use sources even if they are not available online. See WP:Offline sources for advice, but the basic idea is that if you cannot provide an online link, just provide us as many details as possible about the offline/paper source. So if for example you hold in your hands a newspaper article discussing Govindan, that does not exist online, you can cite and footnote it in your draft, but make sure you very clearly specify in the footnote the name of the newspaper, the date, the title of the article, what page it's on (if the pages are numbered) and the name of the journalist (if stated). You want to write the footnote with the expectation that perhaps one of our many readers finds it needful to obtain the original proof of the facts you have delivered, so in theory you want them to be able to track down a paper copy at a library or archive if needed.
As long as a reader could, in theory, find proof of the fact based on the citation you give, then it's still a useful fact to add. MatthewVanitas (talk) 12:41, 18 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I've just improved the article on "João Ferreira Duarte" and introduced secondary references as requested. Should I submit the text for approval or is there a re-submission link I can use?

Thank you.

Done Hello @Egma.plus:, your article was Accepted on the 15th , so there's no need to submit any further drafts, you can simply make changes and improvements to the article itself. Congratulations on getting your article published! Remember, Wikipedia is a living document, so you and others can continue to expand and improve the Duarte article however seems best to you. 14:25:00, 18 January 2016 review of submission by Ivan Mato

Hello there, my name is Ivan Mato. I've been trying to create the Nextev wikipedia page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:NEXTEV with the help of the community. It's my first time creating a new page, in the past I've been successful with completing existing articles.

Editors seem to focus on two things 1. Lack of notability and 2. Promotional undertones. I've tried to fix both but I've been unsuccessful. I would be extremely grateful if someone could help.

Regarding notability, the company has appeared in a plethora of reputable media outlets and agencies such as Fortune, Fast Company, Reuters, Bloomberg and multiple sector websites. It has also hired hundreds of designers and engineers and made some high impact hires such as Martin Leach and Padmasree Warrior, both with Wikipedia articles to their name. Also, regarding the lack of a product, other companies still without a product (such as Faraday Future) already have a Wikipedia page. The company has announced a product and it's already sponsoring the China racing Team FormulaE team.

In terms of 2. Promotional Undertones, I've tried to keep the language as descriptive as possible but any help will be welcomed. Would it be possible to get some direct advice about the parts that are the issue?

Many thanks in advance for your help, Ivan

I am a bit confused regarding permission for use of text from my own homepage in a page I have recently wrote for Wikipedia on "Relational Physiology". I sent an email: [Ticket#: 2016011810017766] granting permission, but what next? The text used in the wikipedia page I authored is my own, of course.

ZoB1958 (talk) 16:53, 18 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like the issue has been resolved: the page is once again live at Relational Physiology. Thanks, /wiae /tlk 00:03, 19 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

08:14:33, 19 January 2016 review of submission by Cnadak

Cnadak (talk) 08:14, 19 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I have not understood, why my article has been declined by saying POV tone has been used. While I have come across several similar articles with same style of writings.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Bidyut_Baran_Chaudhuri

@Cnadak: Hello, and welcome to the Help Desk. The reviewer has asked that you reword the draft to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy. Some words you should consider rewording include "eminent" and "international reputation", and the rest of the document should be written in complete sentences where possible. For example, the "Education and Career" section is written in bullet points, which looks like something you might find in a resume, but doesn't really work well on Wikipedia. I would consider removing the "Research Interest" section entirely, or integrating it into the rest of the draft, making sure to cite sources that back up those particular research interests. In general, you should cite a source whenever you make a significant or contentious claim about Chaudhuri.
As an aside, sometimes there are articles on Wikipedia that are not particularly well-written. It's always best to write your draft so that it complies with policy, rather than basing it on another article that may not be written in the tone required by Wikipedia. Thanks, /wiae /tlk 12:44, 19 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

An article I created for entrepreneur Dick Simon has been accepted, though now it is difficult to find because Dick Simon is already a famous car racer at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dick_Simon. I added entrepreneur Dick Simon to disambiguation pages for Richard Simon and people with surname Simon, but most people will type "Dick Simon" into the search box (that is the name he goes by), be taken directly to Dick Simon the car racer's page, and give up. Can Dick_Simon be turned into a disambiguation page and Dick Simon (Car Racer) moved or is there another solution? Thanks. Calebaencole (talk) 15:35, 19 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello I want to know if an article of the origins of a specific surname would be acceptable. The article will refer to ancient Irish legends, British and Scottish historical texts and documents in a speculative rather than proven way before the 15th century after which time the surname is firmly established in history. The surname I've researched is Routledge and its dozens of variable spellings. Diane Redfern

05:32:14, 20 January 2016 review of submission by Ted.gehring

Hello,

My name is Ted Gehring. I am a Ford's Theatre Teacher Fellow who currently teaches American History in St. Francis, MN. This past summer, I had a chance to study under some of our country's best Civil War historians during a NEH Scholarship experience at Ford's Theatre.

While completing my course work, I repeatedly came across the name of an African American servant who played a major role in foiling the attempted assassination of William H. Seward as well as the capture and conviction of Lewis Powell. Bell attempted to turn Powell out, witnessed the Powell attack Seward's son (Frederick), obtained help from a nearby military headquarters, returned in time to get a make on the assassin's get away horse and give chase, later picked Powell out of the police line up, and gave important eye witness military tribunal testimony led to Powell's guilty verdict at a time when black testimony was widely seen as inadmissible in court.

While Bell's story and picture is present on the front page of period newspapers, and in the military tribunal testimony, he has been mainly written out of the story because he was black. People who played a lesser role in this event than Bell currently have a Wikipedia page (for example, Frances Adeline Seward).

To help rectify the heroic role William Bell played in this major historic event, my students researched and wrote the Bell page which I have been trying to have published. However, our page has been denied because my editor believes Bell is not noteworthy. This is ridiculous. According to the Wikipedia page, a person should not be included if all of the following 3 criteria are not met.

1.If reliable sources cover the person only in the context of a single event.

    - Bell's major contribution to US history is tied to the Seward assassination, and Lincoln Assassination Conspiracy Military Tribunal

2.If that person otherwise remains, and is likely to remain, a low-profile individual. Bell's role in the event was front page news during his time period which is odd considering the time period in which he lived. Blacks were often not written about, trivialized, and/or marginalized due to period racism. If his role is not rectified, how can he ever not remain a low-profile individual?

3.If the event is not significant or the individual's role was either not substantial or not well documented. Bell's role is both well documented in period newspapers, tribunal testimony, and current history works by leading Civil War historians that have written on the topic. Furthermore, Bell's testimony is more extensive than other white people of privilege from the time who have been given a Wikipedia page (Frances Adeline Seward for one). Like many heroic African Americans of his time, Bell did not receive a metal for his heroism like Seward's white body guard George F. Robinson who was present probably due to period racism that existed. Because Bell was not awarded a metal for his actions like Robinson should Bell not be included? (Robinson has his own Wikipedia page as well)

I can site Bell in more secondary sources on the topic if this is helpful. My class really could use help here.

Hi Ted.gehring It seems to me that there is plenty scope for improving the sourcing. The only one of your currently cited sources that appears to be specifically about Bell himself is an online forum discussion. Unfortunately forum dicussions are not acceptable sources at all. You mention that various newspaper articles discussed Bell, but you have not actually used any of those articles as sources. Mainstream news media articles that contain substantial discussion of the subject (Bell) are in fact of the best possible sources. Other high quality sources are peer-reviewed academic journal articles, have you tried your local college library? Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 19:00, 20 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
