The State Library of Queensland is working with Wikimedia Australia to find ways the State Library can add authoritative content to Wikipedia and encouraging Queensland Public Libraries to do the same. The common aim is to get Queensland communities to share their places, people and stories with the world through the Wikimedia projects.

The partnership started in 2010 with a 50,000 image donation (see commons:Commons:State Library of Queensland).

From 2011 to 2014, the partnership expanded to provide Wikipedia edit training in Brisbane and regional Queensland (see Wikipedia Edit Training for more details).

In 2016, the State Library of Queensland had a Wikipedian-in-Residence program focussing on the commemoration of the centenary of World War I with particular emphasis on the home front (see First World War Wikipedian in Residence).
