Wikipedia:Requests for page protection
Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here. | ||
---|---|---|
Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection) After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Current requests for increase in protection level
Place requests for new or upgrading of article protection, upload protection, or create protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.
Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Rapid/Disruptive editing by multiple un-autoconfirmed accounts and IPs. Nodayrt (talk) 06:43, 14 February 2016 (UTC)
- Semi-protected for a period of one month, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. MelanieN (talk) 22:58, 14 February 2016 (UTC)
Temporary semi-protection: Recent death of Antonin Scalia has led to much talk of Srinivasan being a potential nomination to the Supreme Court, which per WP:CRYSTAL wouldn't belong in his article. Furorimpius (talk) 07:36, 14 February 2016 (UTC)
- Declined. Whether this kind of information belongs in the article is currently under discussion at the talk page. Work it out there. In any case, semi-protection would not prevent this kind of material, since it is being added (with references) by auto-confirmed users. MelanieN (talk) 23:04, 14 February 2016 (UTC)
Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Same editor has returned to do the same vandalism... . Nomoskedasticity (talk) 11:12, 14 February 2016 (UTC)
Temporary semi-protection: Persistent Sock puppetry. 112.198.90.2 (talk) 12:57, 14 February 2016 (UTC)

temporary semi-protection: Edit war over superdelegate counts. Requesting protection before this gets worse. This has been argued multiple times in the talk page and we have a solution agreed upon. We need this protection to prevent an edit war and to protect the neutrality of wikipedia.. JP16103 17:17, 14 February 2016 (UTC)
Semi-protection: the page history has become (again) a mess of back-and-forth modifications of the claimed range of this generation, mostly by passing-by IP addresses. This has been a long-term problem. LjL (talk) 17:59, 14 February 2016 (UTC) Potentially even consider full protection as some established editors have started piling on to the edit wars without distinguishing themselves from the more anonymous users by explaining the reasons for their edits and reverts using edit summaries or otherwise. LjL (talk) 21:50, 14 February 2016 (UTC)
Semi-protection: High level of IP vandalism. 2602:306:3357:BA0:B405:1D0E:C4BC:EA9A (talk) 18:51, 14 February 2016 (UTC)
Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – This page has been subjected to repeated vandalism and content blanking from IP addresses. T.C.Haliburtontalk nerdy to me 18:52, 14 February 2016 (UTC)
Temporary semi-protection: Moderate level of IP vandalism over the past few months. Where we're going, we don't need roads. (talk) 19:08, 14 February 2016 (UTC)
Pending-changes protection level 1: High levels of vandalism or BLP violations from unregistered and new users. I am not an editor of this page (I'm not even a fan of the music genre) but I stumbled across it and noted the editing history is flooded with reverts. Artist is clearly notable (see these articles by Forbes and Spin magazines) but the Wikipedia article appears unable to move forward as so much energy is being spent undoing edits. Koala Tea Of Mercy (KTOM's Articulations & Invigilations) 19:11, 14 February 2016 (UTC)
Semi-protection: Many of the recent edits have been fancruft inflations of revenue, which will likely continue if this isn't semi-protected soon. Article was previously protected for a week. Snuggums (talk / edits) 19:48, 14 February 2016 (UTC)
Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – This page has a long history of vandalism and BLP violations. If not indefinite, a long-term temporary/recent changes protection is encouraged/advised here. Nodayrt (talk) 20:15, 14 February 2016 (UTC)

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – The ride is rumored to be removed, but has yet to be confirmed. The removal should be confirmed next weekend. Until then, it should be protected so that it is not constantly vandalized. Astros4477 (Talk) 20:23, 14 February 2016 (UTC)
Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Persistent BLP violations. No constructive edits by IP or new users for almost a month. Qzd (talk) 20:28, 14 February 2016 (UTC)

Indefinite pending changes: Persistent vandalism – Persistent vandalism by IP users and non-confirmed accounts. Much of the vandalism is extremely inappropriate (including references to Hitler, overt sexual references, etc.). Examples: [2], [3], [4], [5], [6], [7], [8], [9]. Page previously has had protection for sockpuppetry and also recently for vandalism. Chrisw80 (talk) 22:42, 14 February 2016 (UTC)

Current requests for reduction in protection level
Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.
- To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
- Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
- Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
- If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.
Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.
Current requests for edits to a protected page
Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.
- Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among
{{Edit protected}}
,{{Edit template-protected}}
,{{Edit extended-protected}}
, or{{Edit semi-protected}}
to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed. - Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the
{{Edit COI}}
template should be used. - Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
- If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
- This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
