Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) persons in Manitoba have most of the same rights and responsibilities as heterosexuals.

Laws Regarding Sexual Activity

All sodomy laws in Canada were repealed in 1969. The age of consent for consensual sodomy is 18 and the age of consent for other sexual acts is 16.

Recognition of Same-Sex Marriage

Common-law relationships have been legal in Manitoba for same-sex couples since 2001, providing some of the rights of marriage. Same-sex marriage has been legal since September of 2004, when the Court of Queen's Bench of Manitoba ruled that same-sex couples had the right to marry.

Same-sex couples can jointly adopt in Manitoba.
