Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) persons in Quebec have most of the same rights and responsibilities as heterosexuals.
Laws Regarding Sexual Activity
All sodomy laws in Canada were repealed in 1969. The age of consent for consensual sodomy is 18 and the age of consent for other sexual acts is 16.
Recognition of Same-Sex Marriage
Civil unions have been legal in Quebec since June 7, 2002.[1] Later that year, the Quebec Court of Appeal ruled that same-sex couples have the right to marry under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, but delayed the ruling for two years. Same-sex marriage was finally allowed in 2004.
Adoption
Same-sex couples can jointly adopt in Quebec.
Discrimination Protection
The Ontario Human Rights Code prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.[2]
Gender Reassignment
Ontario allows people to change their legal sex without sex reassignment surgery.[3]
