You reverted my change
You reverted a change that I made to the Humorous Units of Measure page. You claimed that the edit did not seem "constructive" to you. Please reconsider. You are elevating your subjective opinion about what is "constructive" over what is true.
No one will read this article because they are interested in what you consider constructive. They may, however, read it because they are interested in the tone of the Hacker Culture that created that unit of measure. It is a perfect example of the impertinent irreverence that Richard M. Stallman defined a hack as being: an instance of "playful cleverness" (would you like a reference, assuming that you know who RMS is? Surely an authority on hacker culture...) and that pervades the culture, even today. For that reason, the edit is more than just constructive, it improves the article significantly.
Asserting that the unit of measure is named after Ada Lovelace really just makes you seem like 1) culturally ignorant for not "getting" the obvious references, 2) trying to censor the article even when there are already WP entries for Linda Lovelace and her most famous role, or 1) and 2) together.
I'm hoping that you will reconsider because you doing this completely destroys the image that WP is a community that we can all improve together in a way that is democratic. That's why I support you guys financially and took the time to improve an article. Ddade (talk) 10:00, 1 January 2016 (UTC)
- @Ddade: Is it named after Linda Lovelace (seems likely), Ada Lovelace, or someone else? Please wp:cite a wp:reliable source. Otherwise it is wp:synth or wp:original research / personal opinion. I left it just "Lovelace", no Ada nor Linda. Jim1138 (talk) 10:26, 1 January 2016 (UTC)

Laura Branigan was born 1952.
Hi there,
would like to get in contact with you about Laura Branigan's wikipedia. But I am only interesting in emails. I have been so badly treated by contributors, so I prefer my way.
I hope you will answer me, so we can discuss the design of Laura's references, links, sources, etc. For me it is very strange wiki are keeping sources which are outdated, the writers I have been in contact with, they all said they never met Laura. I have asked them to re-write their wrongs, but they all deny it. New York Post had a story about it in August where they wrote Laura was 52, not 47 when she died. My new Pinterest https://www.pinterest.com/born53/pins/
Looking forward for a nice and calm discussion without threats of warnings. I am already banned, blocked, etc, by wikipedia, the admins of Laura's fansites, etc. The reason why I am blocked is simple...I told the truth about Laura Branigan. She was born July 3, 1952 in Armonk, Town of North Castle.
My email...born53@gmail.com. I have no problems with my name or anything else. I am a true fan who doesn't need hiding behind avatars and nicknames.
Best greetings from Sweden Stig-Åke Persson.
If you are writing to me, there is a time zone. Sweden is 6 h ahead of New York--Born53 swe (talk) 19:17, 1 January 2016 (UTC)
- @Born53 swe: Hi there, I'm really not good at making sense of that sort of stuff. So, I decline your request. I would recommend that you ask at the wp:teahouse. There, you should find a more open ear than on the articles or article talk.
- I might suggest you put your sources on a page in your user space. User:Born53 swe That way you can refer to them. The Pinterest link I don't think is acceptable on the article, see wp:elno #11. If, on your user page, you were to break it down into a number of
{{cite web}}
,{{cite news}}
,{{cite magazine}}
,{{cite journal}}
references. As a list of newspaper articles, magazine articles, tv shows, etc. that mentioned her birth date. Add all the information necessary to locate that article/show. The publisher, date, time, page, author, url, etc. But, ask at the Teahouse first. Hope this helps. Jim1138 (talk) 21:59, 1 January 2016 (UTC)
But you used really hard words against my friend who tries to help me in my research. He is my ghostwriter in US. Why did you banned him? And why are wikipedia still using reference that are outdated? New York Times from 2004 is so wrong it can be. And IMDb are correct, though it was from me they made their changes. Billboard, AllMusic and AllMovie denies all kind of contact. They know they are wrong, but silence is their best friend. Anyway, if you can't help me you could at least apologize to my friend. He is completely right. I have seen the emails Goliks has sent, and that is no kind words. Believe me!--Born53 swe (talk) 23:17, 1 January 2016 (UTC)
- @Born53 swe: I am not an administrator and can not wp:ban nor wp:block anyone. I can request that an admin block someone, but the admin usually checks that I have correctly followed procedures. See WP:BEFOREBLOCK. I do make errors, but I am quite willing to put in extra work to remedy the situation. I often use a program called wp:huggle which aids me in reverting vandalism, unsourced information, and other disruptive content. Huggle allows me to undo an edit and send the editor a warning template. The warning levels are increased until the fifth time when a message is sent to an administrator board requesting a block. Nasty vandals typically get reported and blocked more quickly. Blocks are usually 24 hours the first time but will increase until a permanent block is imposed.
- Who are you referring to? If s/he was blocked, it would be for repeatedly ignoring warnings. The warnings should contain enough information for your friend to avoid repeating the action.
- I want Laura Branigan's article to be correct, but it has to be sourced. Having lots of information and not knowing if it is accurate or not is a major issue. Referring to editors other than yourself, I am told often by editors that some piece of information is correct, but it seems wrong and googling the information does not support that person in any way. I.e. it would seem they are intentionally feeding me nonsense. Another common, but relevant issue is that people are constantly changing someone's birth date when that day has multiple sources stating otherwise. This kind of vandalism happens so often that it can be a full time job for multiple people. These people are referred to as wp:recent changes patrol (RCP). It seems that when many see a birthdate change without any wp:edit summary, it often assumed to be vandalism.
- Regarding outdated information. The New York Times is considered very reputable. That does not mean they are infallible by any means. But, to consider them in error, contradicting sources probably need to be many and of good quality. It seems that you are having an effect. Branigan's page now shows 1952 and some attempts to change it to 1957 have been undone. IMDB and Find-a-grave list 1952. BTW: I added a link to her Find-a-grave listing.
- Personally, I have other things that I consider important and don't want to spend much time on Branigan. I would like to her article correct, but I am going to leave the job for you. There are many other articles in far more need of correction. Please ask at the wp:Teahouse for advise. I do wish you success in your endeavors here. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 09:25, 2 January 2016 (UTC)
On my page????
How is that right??? It's not me, it's the facts on a page that are not there or "there" but not easy to find. Your dealing with a world looking for information in a simplistic quick way. The patent number on the actual page for Fly-by-wire along with inventor should be a give not a treasure hunt........ Nicvanschaick (talk) 22:22, 3 January 2016 (UTC)
- @Nicvanschaick: You edited fly-by-wire and did mess up the article. Your attitude does not encourage my wanting to assist you. You have been given links to Wikipedia:policy and sources to help you with editing. I could tell you how to include the patent citation. But, it seems you want to do it your way. Best of luck! Re: Escape from Tomorrow?
Hello! You undid my edits to the Escape from Tomorrow article, citing quote "Unexplained removal of content (HG) (3.1.18))". However, my edits, which undid those of the previous user, DID provide a reason for the removal, or rather, the restoration: Previous user undid a previous revisit, calling criticism (under the header of Reception) of the film a 'troll review'. I said as much in the edit itself; while I think the edit needed additional cleaning up in hindsight, I still think it's more than valid on that page, and I would like to discuss how best to do so. - TMobias (talk) 09:16, 5 January 2016 (UTC)
Thanks very much for reverting it! Though User:Owlfarm88 continues to undo it, at first claiming the review to be a 'troll', and now saying it's illegitimate despite Mr. Goldmark (Some Jerk with a Camera) being notable in a number of ways (son of Kathi Kamen Goldmark, comedian with several songs on the Dr. Demento show, and a creator of the aforementioned series--which, like Escape from Tomorrow, is filmed entirely using commercial cameras in Disney parks, making him uniquely qualified to review the film beyond it's gimmick). - TMobias (talk) 10:45, 5 January 2016 (UTC)
My attitude is due to the frustration
Look I'm working on a kindle, the subject etc is my Papa , who trusted me to help him...... I have been working with NASA, The Smithsonian,Lockheed and the Governor of Texas . I'm not a computer person and it frustrates me with its inattention to some very important details that should matter. Please just ignore my ignorance, the emotional factors and moral implications are very stressful. Did I mention I'm a Buddhist???? So you can see my own conflict of interest. I really am sorry if it was rude.... I guess I just miss him, his respect for my thoughts and just knowing he trusted me with his life's work is an enormous thing to live up to.

Survivor
Hello, Jim. I'm not sure who else to go to, but I saw your edits on Survivor: San Juan del Sur in the face of Sportsfan's edits, so I was hoping you could help me. His edits are really crossing over into disruptive territory at this point. Do you know someone we can go to or something we can do to stop him and his repeated unexplained removal of content (which is obviously being done because of his personal biases)? Any help would be much appreciated. 169.231.47.33 (talk) 18:20, 5 January 2016 (UTC)

I removed those parts as there is no proofs or evidence to claim of LeT involvement - some people suspected LeJ but LeT has nothing to do with it and no paksitani authorities ever mentioned LeT name as it was mentioned in topic as being "unnamed Pakistani official" — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aqeel1982 (talk • contribs) 03:13, 6 January 2016 (UTC)
- @Aqeel1982: Are you saying the LeT did not issue a fatwa? That has an RS. Why did you remove that statement? Then you truncated the sentence A junior Pakistani cabinet minister said that the government had evidence that the attackers came from India, but Information Minister Sherry Rehman denied any government knowledge of Indian involvement. to A junior Pakistani cabinet minister said that the government had evidence that the attackers came from India. You made the sentence read as though no Pakistani disagreed when they did. Jim1138 (talk) 03:34, 6 January 2016 (UTC)

I would suggest you read the one given citation I removed. It does not mention anything about "INDogs".
The one semi-reasonable ref is a self-published fan website, but I left that.
The rest is unreferenced. I also started discussion on the talk page.
I would suggest that if you want to put anything back in, you find references to support it.
Thanks. --Wordfunk (talk) 22:10, 7 January 2016 (UTC)

Bell Curve Reception Section
Regarding recent edits, You were correct about the Rutledge Dennis quotation, while I don't necessarily agree usefulness of including his reaction in the section, the citation was valid and I simply missed seeing the portion of the citation after the link that continued into the next column. The link, however, was bad and so I fixed that.
As for the APA Task Force Report section, the entire of the quoted section states:
"The differential between the mean intelligence test
scores of Blacks and Whites (about one standard deviation,
although it may be diminishing) does not result from
any obvious biases in test construction and administration,
nor does it simply reflect differences in socioeconomic
status. Explanations based on factors of caste and
culture may be appropriate, but so far have little direct
empirical support. There is certainly no such support for
a genetic interpretation. At present, no one knows what
causes this differential." "Intelligence: Knowns and Unknowns" (PDF).
I am of the opinion that strident efforts should always be made when using quotes that one is fully inclusive in the text that is provided so that even the semblance of bias is avoided.

Capitalization of "internet" vs. "Internet"
Hi Jim,
Thanks for the edit. I checked up "Internet" vs. "internet" in the Oxford English Dictionary (http://www.oed.com/viewdictionaryentry/Entry/248411), and you're right, "internet" is also commonly used. I opted to use the capitalized form, since it's the primary form listed in the OED, and it's also the primary form for the Wikipedia entry on the Internet (and see here). In addition, I figured since many prominent news organizations use the capitalized form (see here), it was better to adhere to their publication standards.

Merger discussion for Guanín (bronze)
An article that you have been involved in editing—Guanín (bronze) —has been proposed for merging with another article. If you are interested, please participate in the merger discussion. Thank you. Anomalocaris (talk) 19:57, 28 January 2016 (UTC)
- @Anomalocaris: I reverted some unexplained text deletion via wp:huggle, don't know anything about the topic, and so not concerned with the content nor merger. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 03:46, 29 January 2016 (UTC)
Recent Change
110.235.224.158 (talk) 09:49, 29 January 2016 (UTC) Jim1138, The changes brought by me were done in-order to support the non-IITian students and who aspire for IES. And I am one of them. Earlier statement ,which I changed, was derogatory and not at all user-friendly.
Bonham
Hello. You recently reverted my edit of this page with the following explanation:
"I noticed that you recently removed some content from Bonham with this edit, without explaining why."
I feel there must be some mistake here, as I did leave a fairly concise edit summary. Given that your reversion was made almost immediately after my edit, I assume this was an automated action and that for some reason it didn't recognise my summary. My summary was as follows: "inked to Bonham surname page and removed redundant list of names"
To explain my case more clearly, the Bonham disambiguation page as it currently stands has a list of people with that name, which is redundant as there is already a page specifically for that purpose. What's more, the disambiguation page doesn't link to the surname page either.
I see two ways of resolving this issue: either to merge the two pages together and delete the Bonham (surname) page, or to do as I did and simply link the surname page in the disambiguation page and remove the redundant list. There are many other pages on Wikipedia that follow this same format, for instance the Jones disambiguation page.
I'll wait for your response before attempting to restore my edit as your bot is likely to revert it again. I look forward to speaking with you soon, Jim. Regards, Al — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.234.115.164 (talk) 10:46, 29 January 2016 (UTC)

Please be circumspect with automated tools
With regard to your two recent reverts at daeva:
- Huggle is intended for dealing with vandalism and other unconstructive edits. Please refer to WP:VANDAL for a helpful description of unconstructive edits.
- Please use automated tools with care. Reverting without reading what you are reverting is not constructive.
- The mechanisms that huggle uses "to draw conclusions as to whether an edit is constructive or not" are not foolproof and are not a license to disengage your own mind.
- Your "[edit comment] didn't seem very civil, so I removed it [the edit]" does not follow.
- Rolling back an *edit* for a seemingly uncivil *edit comment* is not constructive.
- Incivility (real or percieved) is not a valid reason for reverting.
Please be more careful with automated reverts in the future. Rollback privileges are *privileges* that need to used with circumspection. Thank you. -- 95.116.189.233 (talk) 13:13, 30 January 2016 (UTC)
- Replied on editor's talk page. Jim1138 (talk) 13:18, 30 January 2016 (UTC)
- Your reply simply reinforced the point that you ought to counter-check your tools (and yourself). The comment you refer to is not from when you think it is.
- In any case, the point is a) do not rv'ing without valid reason, and b) you need to stop using anti-vand tools (i.e. Huggle) for non-vandalism rv's.
- Move on. You messed up, but everyone messes up occasionally, and its not a big deal. Just don't be an ass about it. -- 95.116.189.233 (talk) 15:21, 30 January 2016 (UTC)

I reported the IP for vandalism. I doubt anything will happen since the IP's behavior is not always constantly blanking/reverting. Hope this will solve the issue. If not, I would recommend telling admin bgwhite about this since he was the first to revert the IP. — JudeccaXIII (talk) 00:45, 31 January 2016 (UTC)
