Barentu, Gash-Barka on deletion review

An editor has asked for a deletion review of Barentu, Gash-Barka. Since you closed the deletion discussion for (or speedy-deleted) this article, your reasons on how or why you did so will be greatly appreciated in the above review.

I undid your addition to the alternate spelling until a source can be cited. Thanks. El_C 11:16, 13 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

As they say in the movies, "ooh behave". Seriously, though, we are trying to write an encyclopædia here, so don't make joke edits. Some readers looking for a serious article mightn't find them amusing. Remember, millions of people read Wikipedia, so we have to take what we do a bit seriously here. OK?

DAbramson

Regarding DAbramson's comment justifying his block of this IP: 'A few good edits mixed in with raucous vandalism - not sure what's going on, but blocking just the same - post a note on your user page if you have an explanation.' -- the explanation is that this is an AOL IP used by literally millions of people, which is why there is a mix of good edits along with a great deal of vandalism. Since AOL IPs change depending on the page being accessed (not the user), blocking this IP also blocks, at random, a percentage of all other AOL users, including those who have screennames.

There are times when I really wish anonymous AOL IPs (not registered users) were hard banned from editing Wikipedia. It is unfortunate that it is impossible due to the collateral damage concerns. Can't sleep, clown will eat me 19:08, 17 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

come on, people...

ya know, if you all weren't so damn hospitable towards vandals ('oh, thank you for experimenting with wikipedia', etc.) and put big freaking smiley faces on their discussion pages, maybe it wouldn't be so common. you can't let these things happen on a free-content encyclopedia.
