The Present is a 2014 animated short film created and directed by German animator Jacob Frey, alongside with Markus Kranzler.[2][3][4] The film won awards at several film festivals.[citation needed]

Plot

A teenage boy plays video games indoors behind blind covered windows, when his mother arrives with a box. She opens the blinds and puts the box on the coffee table in front of him, saying it contains a present for him. Soon after his mother go upstairs to use the telephone, he decides to open the box, revealing a happy puppy. The boy is initially pleased with the present, but when he sees the dog lacks his left front leg he throws the animal on the floor in disgust and returns to his video games. The dog finds a red rubber ball below a cabinet and starts urging the boy to play with him. Amused by the dog, the boy finally gives in and walks outside on crutches to play ball with the dog, revealing that the boy is missing the lower half of one of his legs.
