Doctor Who in Australia
Doctor who has been played religiously by the Australian Government National broadcaster, the ABC (Australian Broadcasting Commission) since the 1965 (1). For many years the ABC played Dr Who at a prime time spot, 6 pm and it had been seen by many.
All seasons of Dr Who were shown by the ABC, generally as they were created, including seasons 28 and 29 of the new series with Christopher Ecclestons. The only minor exception was that one episode featuring the master was played at a later time slot, as it was deemed to be too dark violent for children.
There are a number of clubs for Whovians in Australia The Doctor Who Club of Australia, being the large national club(1)
In 2003 the ABC replayed every single episode available, running every week night, starting from the 1963 to the last season made in 1989, before the new episodes.(2)
